Today we’d like to introduce you to Merinda Watkins-Martin.
Hi Merinda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My husband and I started Lemond Kitchen in 2003. Reginald is an amazing chef that has created some very loved and iconic dishes that we are known for all of Houston. I am the salesperson and event planner. Lemond Kitchen is a boutique catering company that specializes in Southern-inspired dishes with a Creole flare. We also offer spectacular service.
We also are very involved in our community. I am currently a trustee at the MFAH and the Executive Director of Lemond Foundation. We over a variety of services and products to Houstonian in need. We are probably most known for our son, Christopher Martin, part of the foundation, Chris’ Library. We provide free books, backpacks, and food to kids all over Houston.
Currently we have a new foundation house in Sunnyside.. We offer classes and do cultural pop ups.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have had our fair share of challenges. The biggest being hurricanes and pandemics. We have been fortunately able to pivot and survive those challenges.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness for me is a state of mind and conscious choice. I tend to choose happiness regardless of my current circumstances. What really make me happy is being with my family or helping others.
