Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Liu.
Hi Abby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Coming from a family of established education background, Abby Liu has carried on the torch of excellence to lead Cypress Montessori School (CMS) to achieve a number of notable recognitions in recent years.
Cypress Montessori School first opened in August of 2005 by her mother, Ginger Bian.
Now, Cypress Montessori School has been nominated for Top Choice Montessori School of Houston five years in a row, and the school was also nominated into the Business Hall of Fame for Five consecutive years by the Houston Award Program.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Cypress Montessori School encountered an array of challenges by the global pandemic in 2020 but each met with resilience and adaptability.
Currently, CMS is dealing with daunting specters of inflation and rising costs – which causes supply chain disruptions and procurement of food and supplies.
As you know, we’re big fans of Cypress Montessori School. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Cypress Montessori School was nominated as the Best Education Private Schools in Cypress, Houston for its contributions in the field of education and received numerous awards.
In 2024, Abby Liu, the Director/ Owner was nominated for Bosses in Heels and was rewarded a state and congressional award by Shelia Jackson Lee.
Abby Liu’s influence in the community unfolds as a testament to her extraordinary accomplishments both professionally and personally. In 2021, Abby graced the cover of the prestigious Houston Local Women of Influence Magazine.
Abby is also a Houston lululemon ambassador for Houston in the Highland Village Store in River Oaks. She is the founder- instructor and co-owner of Onesweat Studios with currently 10 locations in Houston established in 2018. She was a former collegiate student athlete for the University of Texas at Austin ranked as high as 61 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Abby’s education background: Abby served as the President of Beta Gamma Sigma, an International Honor Society for business students that encourages and honors outstanding academic achievement in business education.
What sets Cypress Montessori School apart is that not only does Cypress Montessori School focus on the child’s preschool education but also gross and motor development. Abby demonstrates her capacity to inspire and lead not only in the realm of education but also in promoting physical well being and well roundness.
Cypress Montessori School offers enrichment programs such as tennis, karate, ballet, soccer, basketball and gymnastics.
What are your plans for the future?
Future plans for Cypress Montessori School include:
1. Adapting to AI slowly and incorporate professional development for teachers to become familiar with AI tools and their educational applications.
2. Incorporating more STEM activities such as robotics or coding classes. Partner with local science centers to provide guest lectures, workshops or field trips.
3. Maintaining a well balanced curriculum and lifestyle for the students: Introduce programs focusing on mental health and wellness, including yoga and breathwork to help the child to become leaders, gain self- confidence, increase cognitive development, obtain greater self- discipline and obtain better time management skills at an early age.
