Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Davis.
Shay , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Shay Davis, and I am the owner of Wellborn Learning Center, LLC. My journey in childcare began after my daughter experienced abuse at her childcare center. That experience changed my life and inspired me to leave my corporate career and pursue a path in early childhood education. I wanted to create a safe, nurturing environment where parents could confidently leave their children, knowing they would be protected, loved, and cared for.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening my childcare center came with many challenges, including navigating zoning laws, managing construction, and preparing to meet state licensing requirements. It took more than a year to open. It was one of the hardest things I have ever accomplished, but it has also been one of the most rewarding.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Wellborn Learning Center, LLC is a locally owned and operated boutique childcare center serving fewer than 50 children, from six weeks to 12 years old. Our smaller setting allows us to know every child and family by name and provide a more personal, family-centered experience.
We offer infant care, toddler care, preschool, after-school care, and summer programming in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and enjoy being children.
What makes Wellborn Learning Center special is the close connection we have with our families. Communication is a priority, and parents are kept informed and involved in their child’s care. As the owner, I am present at the center each day, and families have direct access to me whenever they have questions or concerns.
I am most proud that we have created a trusted community where children feel safe, loved, and excited to come each day, and where parents feel confident knowing their children are in caring hands.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as knowing I built something that makes a difference. Success is seeing children feel safe, loved, and happy to come to school, while their parents feel confident leaving them in our care.
It also means continuing to grow as a business owner, providing for my family, creating jobs for others, and building something I can be proud of. To me, success is not just about money. It is about the lives I impact, the trust I build, and knowing I did not give up when things became difficult.
