Meet Virginia Alvarado of Virginia Alvarado Team Lead of Zone Realty Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Virginia Alvarado.

Hi Virginia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have lived in Houston my entire life. I have been married for 17 years, and my husband and I have three children. They are truly the reason I got into real estate.

In 2016, my husband and I purchased our first home. We really did not know much about the home buying process. We found a fixer upper that we loved and were ready to purchase it cash. The seller was not willing to pay for a realtor, but we knew this was our life savings, so we decided to hire one ourselves because we wanted someone to guide us and protect us through the process. We had heard stories of people trying to purchase a home and unfortunately losing their money because they did not have the right guidance, and we knew we wanted that assurance.

Everything happened so quickly that even though we were excited, we also felt confused and uncertain. Looking back, that experience really showed me how important it is to have someone who not only knows the process but also takes the time to educate, communicate, and truly advocate for their clients.

After transforming that house into our home, we made it a priority to get our finances back on track so we could purchase our next investment property. We saved, made sacrifices, and started thinking about ways we could be smarter financially. That is when the idea came up for me to get my real estate license. I knew it would help us save money in the long run, but more importantly, I knew it would allow me to protect my family and our investments.

When I got licensed in 2017, I quickly realized this was much more than a way to help my family. It was a career I genuinely loved. Like many agents, my journey was not easy. There were long days, countless hours of work, moments of discouragement, and many times where I questioned if I was doing enough.

I quickly learned that in this industry you have to always be willing to learn, grow, and stay coachable. I invested in training, continued sharpening my skills, and focused on becoming the best professional I could be.

Over time, something incredible started happening. My business began to grow almost entirely through referrals. People started coming to me because they knew my values. They knew they would receive honest guidance, dedicated service, and a high level of professionalism.

That same standard extends to the people I surround myself with. The lenders, title companies, insurance providers, and other professionals I work with understand the high expectations I have because having my clients receive the best experience possible from every person involved in the process is my priority. These professionals also recognize the dedication I give into every transaction, which has given me the opportunity to have a partnership with the very recognized TDECU saving my clients money in their closing cost. This has been a great accomplishment in my career since not many get invited to be part of this exclusive partnership.

I never wanted to simply help someone buy or sell a home. I wanted every client to feel confident, informed, and cared for throughout the entire process. Which is why a consultation is a very important first step in my business. It is a time I take to explain the process to my clients so that they know their options and what to expect.
This became especially important to me when I saw the need for more education and guidance within my Hispanic community. I want people to understand the opportunities available to them and to know that homeownership is possible through many programs such as down payment assistance, ITIN, VA, and even creative financing like bank statement loans for those individuals that tax returns have stopped them from getting approved for their mortgage loan. I work with so many trusted lenders that no matter the client’s situation we will find a solution. I have made it a priority to find the right professionals that have the same work ethics, and values to help as many clients as possible.

As my business continued to grow, I felt like life was presenting me with another opportunity. Agents started reaching out to me for advice, mentorship, and guidance. I realized how much I enjoyed helping others grow and seeing someone else’s business flourish knowing I had been able to help in some way.

That is what inspired me to create Zone Realty Group. My vision was to build a team that shared the same values I do. A team that would provide every client with professional, knowledgeable, and dedicated service while also giving back to the community we serve.

Without recruiting, agents started joining the team because they connected with that vision. Since then, we have continued to grow, and our mission has stayed the same. We regularly sponsor local events, host community initiatives, and volunteer throughout Houston because we believe our responsibility goes beyond real estate. We want to make a positive impact in the community that has always been home.

Today, I feel incredibly grateful that what started as a way to help my own family has grown into a career where I have the privilege of helping families achieve homeownership, mentoring other agents, and making a difference in my community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest obstacles in my career has been learning to navigate the idea of balance. During my first few years in real estate, I worked constantly. I was building a business while raising three young children. Even though I was very present in their lives, I still carried that mom guilt, wondering if I was doing enough.
Over time, I’ve realized there really isn’t such a thing as perfect balance. Some days require more of me as a realtor, while other days my family needs me most. Instead of chasing balance, I focus on being intentional. Every day, I strive to give the best of myself in every role I have as a wife, a mother, a business owner, and a realtor. Some days I do that better than others, but I continue to show up with purpose.

Another challenge is overcoming the misconceptions surrounding our industry. Many people think a realtor simply unlocks doors or puts a sign in the yard, but there’s so much more that goes into protecting our clients, negotiating on their behalf, and helping them make one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I truly give my all with every single client making myself available when they need me and guiding every single client as if they were family.
Because of that, education has become one of our greatest priorities. I believe informed clients make confident decisions. Whether I’m creating educational content, hosting community events, or simply taking extra time to explain every step of the process, my goal is to empower people with knowledge. I want every client to feel confident, informed, and cared for not just during the transaction, but long after it’s over. I proudly have the privilege to say many clients have become friends and I am the designated realtor for many families!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I work with professionals that work with all kinds of situations from down payment assistance, ITIN, DACA, bank statement loans for self-employed individuals, and many more! I also have an exclusive partnership with TDECU giving me clients a credit towards their closing cost. My goal is to help everyone with a real estate goal accomplish that goal!
