Today we’d like to introduce you to JaCorey Robinson.
Hi JaCorey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from a small town out in Louisiana called Many which is a hour south of Shreveport. My Mama moved me and my sister out to Houston when I was 8 (2001). We moved on Imperial Valley on the Northside. But once we moved to Greenspoint, thats when God unlocked my creativity. I started skateboarding when I was 12 (2005). And being a black kid in Greenspoint skateboarding back in those days was sort of looked down upon, so I was bullied from time to time. That ain’t stop me or changed who I was though. I started making music at the age of 15, using only a laptop filled with viruses, using a recording software called mixcraft, a Rockband Mic from the video game “Rockband” and fl studio 8 to make my beats. At the same time, me and my friends would go out and skate and film. As I got older (between the ages of 19-26) me and my good friend, who is like my brother, Darryl aka Lil’ Stank linked up and we been rocking creatively ever since. I honestly wouldn’t of got to where I am today without God and Darryl. Also all the other homies as well. Shout out Juan, Chino, Ale, Papa Gween, Donnie, K Rhymes, all the Collins Skate Park Family! Love Love! Over the years, I’ve gotten better with my production, I became a better recording/mixing engineer, and a better filmer. So ever since then, I’ve took everything that I learned throughout those years, and put them together. That’s where I am now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely ain’t been a smooth road at all. Having to pawn equipment for bread, buying it back and having to pawn it again. While also going through regular life ups and downs. I’m still going through ups and downs but my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is getting me through.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m Corey Waffle, or Waffle. I’m a Artist, a Audio Engineer, and a Music Producer. Anything that has to do with Audio and Production, I’m pretty much doing it. Whether that’s streaming, shooting, directing, or editing videos. I took all of what I learned throughout the years and put it all together. I know it sound like I wear a lot of hats but it’s a breeze doing what I do.. sometimes.
I can say that I’m proud of the people that came in my life through out my journey. They really pushed and motivated me to keep doing what I’m doing and don’t stop no matter if I’m going through something. Don’t stop.
I can’t really say what sets me apart from others. I notice a lot of fakeness in the industry that I’m in when it comes to being a Artist on the music side but other than that, I’m just me.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I really only use Spotify for music inspiration and Youtube for a good laugh, and gaming content ideas.
