Today we’d like to introduce you to Jooy Chen.
Hi Jooy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey started with content creation. I began sharing my food adventures around Houston and some videos started gaining traction. This led to opportunities to create content for local businesses, which introduced me to the world of social media and brand building.
I’ve always had a strong desire to build something of my own and be my own boss, so earlier this year, I decided to acquire a small e-commerce business called Sip & Shimmer. It felt like the right next step in my journey, from creating content for other businesses to actually owning and growing one myself.
Since taking over Sip & Shimmer, I’ve streamlined operations, refined our product line, and worked to build a stronger presence on social media. Being a small business owner has definitely been huge a learning curve, but that’s also what makes it exciting.
I’m still balancing entrepreneurship with content creation, a full-time career, and being a new mom. I don’t think I’ve reached the version of my life where I can perfectly balance it all, but I believe I’ll get there one day. Entrepreneurship is a long-term journey of learning, experimenting, and figuring out how I want my future to look. Both content creation and Sip & Shimmer have provided me the opportunity to learn what that really means, and I’m excited to see where it all takes me!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road! The process of acquiring the business was more complicated than I thought, and I faced unexpected challenges with defective products and other operational issues. On top of that, I became a new mom the day after closing on the business, so it’s been a major period of adjustment and learning. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and other responsibilities hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has taught me something and made me more resilient.

Sip & Shimmer is a small Amazon store created to elevate your drink experience. We offer unique wine and cocktail accessories that are designed to be both functional and fun, from wine aerators and drink glitter. I genuinely believe in the products we offer because they add a little more joy and sparkle to any occasion. I’m proud of the brand we’re building and the opportunity to take something fun and turn it into a business.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I actually don’t have a mentor for entrepreneurship, but it’s something I’d love to find! I’ve been fortunate to have great mentors in my full-time career who believed in me, encouraged me, and pushed me when I needed it. Having someone in your corner who sees your potential. especially when you don’t see it yourself, is incredibly valuable and can make all the difference.
