Daily Inspiration: Meet Phil Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phil Gilbert.

Hi Phil, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I was always watching HGTV and reality shows about flipping houses and real estate. I didn’t know when or how I would eventually get into the industry, but I always knew I wanted to be a part of it somehow.

After graduating college, I started working in corporate America and purchased my first home just a year into my career. I remember telling my friends that they should be investing in real estate too, but most of them felt like they were too young. Looking back, I think that was one of the first moments I realized I had a different mindset when it came to money and opportunity. I’ve always had that entrepreneurial “hustle” mentality; from selling candy in high school to eventually learning how to leverage real estate as a way to build wealth and create additional income.

A few years after purchasing my first home, I had acquired four properties and started thinking more strategically about my investments. Eventually, I decided it was time to sell my first home and use the equity to fund some of the other projects I had going on. However, I made myself one promise: if I was ever going to sell my first home, I wanted to be the person who sold it.

That decision ultimately led me to get my real estate license. What started as an interest I had as a kid watching HGTV eventually became a career that allowed me to combine my entrepreneurial mindset, my experience as an investor, and my passion for helping other people navigate real estate.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road definitely hasn’t always been smooth. One of the biggest challenges I’ve learned to navigate is just how many moving pieces there are in a real estate transaction. You’re coordinating with the other agent, title company, lender, insurance agent, inspectors, contractors, and often several other people behind the scenes, all while making sure everyone is communicating and working toward the same goal.

What can look simple from the outside/social media can actually involve dozens of decisions, deadlines, and potential obstacles. As an agent, my job is to manage as much of that complexity as possible so my clients don’t have to carry that stress themselves. There are always going to be unexpected challenges, but I’ve learned that staying proactive, communicating clearly, and keeping everyone on the same page can make all the difference.

At the end of the day, my goal is to make the process feel as easy and seamless as possible for my clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
There are thousands of real estate agents in Houston, so I think it’s important to be intentional about what sets you apart. For me and my team, it’s the ability to work with a wide range of clients and properties. We work with everyone from first-time buyers purchasing their starter home to clients purchasing million-dollar properties. Regardless of the price point, we believe every client deserves the same level of attention, expertise, and service.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve been able to build my business around the same principles that led me into real estate in the first place: entrepreneurship, investing, and genuinely helping people create opportunities for themselves. Whether someone is buying their first home, building an investment portfolio, or purchasing a luxury property, I want my clients to feel like they have someone in their corner who understands both the transaction and the bigger picture.

Ultimately, I don’t want to just be known as the person who helped someone buy or sell a house. I want to be the person they call when they’re trying to figure out what their next move in real estate should be.

What are your plans for the future?
My biggest goal for the future is to continue growing my business while helping as many people as possible become homeowners and, hopefully, investors. I want to show people that real estate doesn’t have to be intimidating or something you have to wait until you’re older to get involved in. My own experience taught me how powerful real estate can be when you learn how to use it strategically, and I want to help others discover that same opportunity.

For the remainder of this year, I’ve set a personal goal of helping at least 50 more families achieve a real estate goal; whether that means purchasing their first home, moving into their next one, or taking their first step into real estate investing.

Beyond the numbers, I’m looking forward to continuing to build a business that creates lasting relationships. I want my clients to know that I’m not just here for one transaction; I want to be a resource they can continue to come back to throughout their real estate journey.
