Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Campos.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co was founded after recognizing a need for practical, experience-based information within the commercial kitchen exhaust industry.
After more than two decades serving in fire service, fire prevention, inspections, code enforcement, and training, I observed that many contractors, facility owners, and industry professionals were looking for clear, practical guidance on fire codes, industry standards, and accepted practices. My experience across both the public and private sectors provided a unique perspective on those challenges.
I founded Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co to share that knowledge through professional development resources, continuing education courses, and informational content for the commercial kitchen exhaust industry. The focus has always been on helping industry professionals better understand applicable codes, standards, and accepted practices so they can make informed decisions in their work.
Over the years, Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co has had the opportunity to brief members of a state fire marshal’s association and has developed relationships with organizations that share an interest in advancing knowledge within the industry. We are also a Strategic Partner of the **International Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Association (IKECA)**, supporting the industry’s commitment to professional development and continuing education.
Today, Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co serves contractors, commercial kitchen stakeholders, and industry organizations by providing continuing education, informational resources, and other professional development materials. As the company continues to grow, our goal is to be a trusted source of practical knowledge and industry information for the commercial kitchen exhaust community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many small businesses, the journey has had its challenges. Building credibility in a specialized industry takes time, especially when much of the value comes from knowledge and experience rather than a physical product. Establishing relationships, earning trust, and making professionals aware of the resources we offer has required consistent effort.
Another challenge has been adapting to changes in the industry and finding effective ways to reach professionals across different regions. As a small business, we’ve also had to balance developing new resources, maintaining existing offerings, and managing day-to-day operations.
Despite those challenges, each obstacle has helped refine our approach. We’ve focused on listening to industry needs, building strong relationships with organizations and professionals, and continually improving the resources we provide. Those experiences have positioned Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co to continue growing while staying focused on delivering practical, experience-based information to the commercial kitchen exhaust industry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co?
Most people don’t realize there is an entire industry dedicated to cleaning the exhaust systems above commercial cooking equipment. This is known as commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning (KEC). KEC is an important part of maintaining commercial kitchens found in restaurants, schools, hospitals, hotels, casinos, grocery stores, and many other facilities that cook food.
As grease builds up inside a kitchen’s exhaust system, it can increase the risk of a fire that spreads beyond the cooking equipment. That’s why regular cleaning of these systems is generally required by adopted fire codes and industry standards. When done properly and on a regular schedule, KEC helps reduce fire hazards, protect property, and support a safer environment for employees, customers, and first responders.
Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co exists to support the professionals who perform this important work. We provide continuing education, practical industry resources, and business development for people who want to enter or grow in the commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning (KEC) industry.
What makes us different is our perspective. We combine Chief Fire Inspector certifications, years of fire service and code enforcement experience, service on industry committees, and an MBA with a concentration in Sales and Business Development. That allows us to help KEC professionals not only understand the technical side of the job, but also how to build strong, professional businesses that earn the trust of customers and authorities alike.
At the end of the day, our mission is simple: help raise the standard of the KEC industry so commercial kitchens are better maintained, businesses are more successful, and the risk of preventable kitchen exhaust fires is reduced.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is knowing that the work we do can make a real difference. Every time someone learns something that helps them improve their business, better understand fire safety, or make a more informed decision, that’s rewarding.
I also enjoy seeing people succeed. Whether it’s someone earning continuing education credits, starting a commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning (KEC) business, or growing an existing company, it’s satisfying to know we played a small part in their success.
The fire service taught me that sharing knowledge has value. Being able to continue doing that through Fight Kitchen Fires, Ltd Co—while helping advance an industry that often works behind the scenes—is what motivates me every day.
