Meet Kymesha Atwood of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kymesha Atwood.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Kymesha Atwood, but most people know me as Ky—my family, friends, and audience alike. I was born and raised in Alabama, where I spent most of my childhood. I initially dreamed of becoming a news anchor, but during college, I realized that wasn’t the right path for me. I became deeply inspired by marketing and communication because of the power to tell stories and make a personal impact on people’s lives.

I graduated from Troy University with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, a minor in Public Relations, and a Master’s degree in Strategic Communication. After college, I moved to Austin with hopes and dreams of following God’s calling in my life. Later, I transitioned to Houston, where I discovered even greater purpose both personally and professionally. I started a ministry called Bold Free Ministries, and I also released my first book, Fruitful Tree, which debuted in May of this year.

I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Strategic Communication from Regent University. I have been able to apply my skills and knowledge to help those around me, especially in business, ministry, and leadership, which I believe is my truest calling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While I wouldn’t describe my journey as entirely smooth, I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me. I believe that God has a purpose for each of us, and I trust that my path has been where I needed to be. Moving to Houston without my family was a significant transition that required me to develop independence, adapt to new environments, and step outside my comfort zone.

Discovering my passion for marketing, communication, and authorship has been a fulfilling and transformative journey, pushing me to challenge the status quo and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Along the way, I’ve also had to overcome personal doubts and fears, which has helped me grow both professionally and personally. I believe these experiences have contributed to who I am today and continue to guide me toward my purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
While my professional background is in marketing and communication, my passion for writing developed through poetry, short stories, and Christian materials such as devotionals and music. Recently, my creative work led to the publication of my first book, Fruitful Tree, which is available on Amazon. This collection of thirty-two poems is divided into four powerful sections—God, Man, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Fruitful Tree explores the quiet moments between faith and humanity, transforming stillness into meaningful reflections on the Creator’s work.

This book represents my first opportunity to create a meaningful transition from my personal experiences and to express my love for God through the journey of life. It focuses on how we are cultivated by our roots and how we can grow in the radiance of the divine when connected to the right vine. What sets me apart is my ability to blend faith, creativity, and personal reflection to inspire others on their spiritual journey. This is what I am most proud of.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I often find my writing inspiration outside. I get a lot of joy from the subtle things in life, the trees, flowers, and birds. While my work is a reflection of the Creator, I enjoy challenging myself to think beyond what’s visible and explore the deeper, unseen aspects of life. I also keep a lot of journals, so I’d say it’s even more surprising that I actually enjoy writing on paper, something that’s not everyone’s favorite thing these days! But hey, there’s something special about putting pen to paper that sparks my creativity in a way digital just can’t match.
