Today we’d like to introduce you to APRIL RHODES.
Hi APRIL, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Empow-Herinc was est and founded by me in 2019, came in full circle in 2020 during the pandemic. I was a victim to both domestic violence and mental health. I had lost everything during my divorce, lost my job, car, the stuff I had in my storage, this was back in 2010. I had to go live with other people, I had left my children behind with their father, because they were familiar with him, and not just leave them with total strangers. So, I took all of that pain and started Empow-Herinc, so I can be that voice to other people who looked like me or was just in my shoes and needed someone to advocate for them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road. I had a lot of struggles within my struggle. Financial issues and I didn’t have a car to get around. I was looking for work and still had to go sleep on other people couches even they didn’t want me there.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Patient Disability Advocate who advocate and assist people with Medicaid, Social Security and Social Security Disability. I have been doing this for 11 years and in the medical field for a total of 33 years. I love what I do, and that’s helping.
Empow-Herinc gives back to the community as much as possible. I host Charity Sneaker balls and give the donations of Baby items back to one of my charities of choice, and that is The Houston Area Women Center. I’m just so proud of myself that I am able to give back, because I didn’t have anyone to advocate for me.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Most important lesson along my journey was to keep God 1st and never give up.
