Inspiring Conversations with Amaury Brito of AB Design & Strategy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaury Brito.

Hi Amaury, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story has taken a few different turns, but design and problem-solving have always been a part of it.

I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States when I was 13 years old. I was the first in my family to graduate from high school and college, and a big part of my journey was serving nine years in the U.S. Army. The military taught me discipline, leadership, resilience, and how to solve problems even when the path forward isn’t always clear.

Professionally, I started my design career in the Oil & Gas industry as a mechanical designer. I spent about eight years working in that field, where I learned the technical side of design and how important accuracy, systems, and attention to detail are.

Eventually, I realized that I wanted to use those skills in a different way. I transitioned into UX and Product Design, where I could combine problem-solving with something I have always enjoyed—understanding people and creating better experiences for them. That journey eventually led me to Kohl’s, where I work as a Product Designer designing digital experiences at an enterprise level.

AB Design & Strategy grew from that experience and from something I kept seeing around me. There are many small businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations with great ideas and great services, but they don’t always have access to the same level of design and strategy that larger companies have.

I wanted to help change that.

I started AB Design & Strategy to bring the experience I’ve gained throughout my career to businesses and organizations that are building something meaningful. Today, I help clients create websites, digital products, brands, and digital experiences that don’t just look good, but have a purpose and strategy behind them.

For me, this business is more than just designing websites or products. It’s about using everything I’ve learned throughout my journey to help other people bring their vision to life and build something they can be proud of.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think the challenges are a big part of what shaped me.

One of my biggest challenges was transitioning from mechanical design into UX and Product Design. I had spent years building a career in one industry, and moving into a completely different field meant starting over in many ways. I had to learn new skills, build a new portfolio, continue my education, and prove that the experience I already had could translate into this new career.

Starting AB Design & Strategy brought another set of challenges. I’m building the business while continuing to work full-time as a Product Designer and balancing my responsibilities as a husband, father, and everything else that comes with life. I’ve also had to learn that being a good designer and running a business are two different things. I’ve had to learn about sales, marketing, contracts, finances, client relationships, and all the other things that happen behind the scenes.

Another challenge has been building something from the ground up. When you’re starting a business, you don’t automatically have a large client list or people who know your name. You have to earn people’s trust one project at a time and let the quality of your work speak for itself.

But that’s also what I’ve enjoyed about the journey. Every project teaches me something new, every challenge forces me to grow, and I’m still building. I don’t consider AB Design & Strategy a finished story. We’re still at the beginning of what I believe it can become.

We’ve been impressed with AB Design & Strategy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
AB Design & Strategy is a digital design and strategy company focused on helping small businesses, entrepreneurs, churches, ministries, and organizations build a professional digital presence with the same level of care and quality you would expect from larger brands.

We specialize in website design and development, UX and product design, brand strategy, and creating connected digital experiences. Our goal isn’t simply to make something look good. We focus on understanding the business or ministry, the people it serves, and what the design actually needs to accomplish.

What sets us apart is the combination of design, strategy, and real-world experience behind our work. I bring years of professional design experience across multiple industries, including my current work designing enterprise digital experiences at Kohl’s. I take what I’ve learned working at that level and make it accessible to small businesses, entrepreneurs, churches, ministries, and organizations that may not have access to an internal design team.

I’m especially proud of the relationships we’re building with our clients. Many are entrepreneurs building something from the ground up or churches and ministries looking for better ways to reach and serve their communities. We’re able to come alongside them at different stages—from establishing their brand and launching their first website to creating digital products and improving their overall digital presence.

At AB Design & Strategy, we believe good design should have a reason behind it. That’s where our philosophy comes from: Design With Faith. Strategy With Purpose.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is serving others and spending time with my family. Whether through my work, my business, my church, or simply helping someone when I can, I find a lot of fulfillment in being able to use my time and abilities to make a positive difference in someone else’s life.

I also love traveling with my family. Getting away from our normal routine, experiencing new places, trying new things, and creating memories together is something I truly enjoy. At the end of the day, success for me isn’t only about what I accomplish professionally, it’s about being able to serve others while enjoying life and creating meaningful memories with the people I love.
