Today we’d like to introduce you to Toi Harris.
Toi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey started with a genuine love for bringing people together and creating positive energy through dance. What began as simply enjoying line dancing grew into something much bigger when I realized how much joy, confidence, and connection it could bring to others.
I stepped out on faith and created Trophywife Line Dance Crew, Big thanks to The Trenches which is a place that I go to quite often to eat and just vibe; then one day they gave me the opportunity to hold my classes there on Monday night and ever since then I’ve been building it one class, one dance, and one person at a time. There were moments when the classes were small and times when I had to push myself to keep going, but I stayed consistent because I knew my purpose was bigger than numbers. I wanted to create a space where people could come as they are, learn without feeling judged, have fun, and feel like family.
As my journey grew, I began creating original line dances to music from different artists, including Tum Trapper, Baby Queen, Blue Money CC, Stackz Keezy, and many more. I’m so thankful that each one of these amazing artists gave me the opportunity. Being able to combine my creativity with their music has allowed me to put my own signature on the line dance community while also introducing people to new music and artists.
Over time, I began teaching at different venues, performing, collaborating with other dancers and artists, and building a community that continues to grow. One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing people who once said, “I can’t dance,” gain the confidence to get on the floor and enjoy themselves.
Today, I’m still growing, learning, creating, and expanding the Trophywife brand. I’m grateful for every opportunity, every artist who has trusted or inspired me to create to their music, every person who has taken one of my classes, and everyone who has supported me along the way. This journey has taught me that you don’t have to have everything figured out—you just have to believe in what you’re building, remain consistent, and keep showing up.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Building something from the ground up comes with challenges, especially when you’re putting your heart into something you truly believe in. Some of my biggest struggles have been staying consistent during times when class attendance was low, dealing with self-doubt, balancing my personal life, career, and my passion for line dancing, and learning that everyone won’t always understand or support your vision.
There have been moments when I questioned whether I should keep going, but I’ve learned not to measure my purpose by numbers or outside validation. Even if only one person shows up, I’m still going to give them the same energy and experience I would give a room full of people.
I’ve also learned that growth sometimes requires separating yourself from negativity, protecting your peace, and becoming comfortable with doing things differently. Every challenge has helped me become more confident, creative, and determined. The road hasn’t been perfect, but every obstacle has played a part in building Trophywife Line Dance Crew into what it is today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the creator and instructor behind Trophywife Line Dance Crew. I specialize in teaching line dance, creating original choreography, performing, and bringing people together through music and movement. I’ve created dances to music by artists such as Tum Trapper, Baby Queen, Blue Money CC, Stackz Keezy, and many more. I also teach weekly classes, private sessions, group events, and collaborate with other dancers and artists.
I’m known for bringing energy, personality, patience, and Southern flavor to line dancing. For me, it’s bigger than just learning steps—I want people to feel comfortable, confident, and like they’re part of a family when they come to my classes. I always say, “I dance to teach.” I want everyone, from beginners to experienced dancers, to leave feeling like they learned something and had a good time doing it.
What sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to create my own lane. I love taking songs people may not expect to hear in the line dance world—especially country rap and Southern music—and turning them into dances that people can enjoy together. I put my own style into my choreography while still making it something people can learn, remember, and have fun with.
What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built. Watching someone walk into my class nervous or saying they can’t dance, then seeing them smiling, dancing, and gaining confidence means everything to me. I’m also proud to see my original choreography being supported and enjoyed by others. Trophywife Line Dance Crew is more than steps—we’re family, we’re creating memories, and we’re building confidence one dance at a time.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is family, faith, peace, purpose, and leaving a positive impact on the people around me. Everything I do, whether in my personal life or through Trophywife Line Dance Crew, comes from wanting to create something meaningful.
My family keeps me grounded, my faith keeps me going, and protecting my peace has taught me the importance of being intentional about the people and energy I allow into my life. My purpose is what pushes me to continue even when things aren’t easy.
With line dancing, what matters most isn’t having the biggest class or receiving the most recognition—it’s knowing that I made someone smile, helped them gain confidence, or gave them a place where they felt welcomed. I want my legacy to be bigger than the dances I created. I want people to remember how I made them feel and the love, confidence, and positive energy I brought into every room I entered.
