Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Lopez.
Hi Paul, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve had a passion for music since I was young. By the time I was 16, I decided that I wanted to pursue music seriously. I worked hard, collaborated with different people, and saved every penny I could to invest in my own equipment. I started by producing instrumentals, and eventually began writing and recording music as well.
Over the years, I discovered new artists and had opportunities to collaborate creatively with them. Through that experience, I developed another passion: music engineering. I took online courses, recorded different artists, and experimented with a variety of genres. The more I learned, the stronger that passion became.
At the same time, I became interested in entrepreneurship. I had always enjoyed drawing, so I began turning my artwork into digital graphic designs. I eventually took a break from making music and focused more heavily on design. I found my niche within the custom fitted-cap community, where I began creating pins, shirts, hats, and other custom artwork.
That experience inspired me to take the next step and create my own clothing brand. I started with one design and marketed it to the same community I had been working with. The response was very positive, which motivated me to pursue the idea further.
Since then, I’ve been designing and producing custom artwork and clothing for the Houston streetwear community, and I genuinely enjoy every part of the process. I’ve reached out to potential investors, invested in the equipment I needed to get started, and went straight into production.
What started as a passion for music and art has grown into an entrepreneurial journey. I’ve learned how to be creative, work with different people, market my ideas, invest in myself, and turn my skills into something tangible. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m excited to continue learning, growing, and building something meaningful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has definitely come with its challenges. There have been slow periods, financial difficulties, and plenty of ups and downs along the way. One of the biggest challenges I experienced with music was scheduling. Coordinating two or more artists in the studio at the same time was often difficult because everyone had different projects, schedules, priorities, and expectations. There were also times when I had to navigate different personalities and egos while trying to keep everyone focused on the same goal.
Despite those challenges, my passion for music made it all worthwhile. It taught me patience, communication, adaptability, and the importance of staying committed even when things don’t go according to plan.
At the same time, balancing a full-time job, school, bills, and responsibilities at home can be demanding on its own. Adding a small business on top of all of that can stretch you pretty thin. However, those experiences have taught me how to manage my time, prioritize responsibilities, and continue moving forward even when things become difficult. I’ve learned that building something of your own requires sacrifice, discipline, and consistency, but the fulfillment that comes from seeing your hard work turn into something real makes the challenges worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I work full-time as a graphic designer and clothing brand owner, specializing in streetwear fashion and custom artwork. While that is my primary focus today, I’m also known for my extensive background in music.
I spent many years as a recording artist, creating music videos and albums and performing at venues in a variety of settings. I also worked as an underground producer, where I helped younger artists develop their sound, navigate the creative process, and better understand the business side of the music industry.
Throughout my time in music, I built a strong network of relationships and connections within the industry. Those relationships have continued to be valuable as I’ve transitioned into my current ventures, allowing me to bring the connections and experience I gained through music into my work in fashion, design, and entrepreneurship.
One of the accomplishments I’m most proud of is my experience as a music engineer. I’ve always had a strong ear for music and consider myself an audiophile. I’m very particular about sound quality and the details that go into creating a polished final product. That attention to detail has carried over into my design work as well, where I’m equally focused on quality, creativity, and presentation.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
My personality has evolved significantly over the years. When I was younger, I felt like I always had to be the toughest person in the room. I was constantly on guard, felt like I had to watch my back, and found it difficult to trust people. As I’ve grown older and gained more life experience, I’ve developed a much more mature perspective. I’ve realized that constantly being defensive and guarded wasn’t the healthiest or most productive way to approach life.
One thing that has remained consistent throughout my life, however, is my creativity. I’ve always enjoyed drawing, making music, listening to music closely, and painting. Creativity has always been a major part of who I am and how I express myself.
As I’ve matured, I’ve also become much more laid-back and intentional about the people I surround myself with. I’ve learned to recognize when certain relationships or environments contribute to negativity and to distance myself from them. That growth has helped me become more focused, positive, and comfortable with who I am, both personally and professionally.
