Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Legge and Alyssa Mantooth.
Alyssa first started BHM with another friend as a place for all of their friends to come together and sell their handmade items. Beth stepped into co-organize with Alyssa about two years after its founding, when Alyssa’s friend began a non-profit.
They want BHM to be a gathering place for makers from all over to showcase their items and hard work.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have struggled mostly with finding a location that fits our needs. We have moved three times. Starting in an outdoor pavilion that we quickly outgrew, then moving to the fairgrounds and moving for some technical issues with the running of the fairgrounds. Now, we are at The Cana Ballroom and it is absolutely stunning. The views of the surrounding hill country are unbeatable, but eventually, we will outgrow this location just based on numbers of vendors.
We are also a juried Market, meaning, not every vendor that applies is accepted. We have a jury of peers that meets before each market and goes through all registrations to decide who best fits the BHM brand and aesthetic. It’s never, ever easy telling someone their products don’t fit into BHM’s vision.
Boerne Handmade Market – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Boerne Handmade Market is a bi-annual, handmade only market that features 70-80 vendors. Our artisans sell items such as home decor, bath and body products, children’s toys and clothing, jewelry, adult clothing, signs, handmade makeup and more.
We are SO proud to support the handmade movement and provide a space where shoppers can buy straight from the maker and support their business and family.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We were recently voted as the Best of San Antonio – best market for one of a kind gifts!
We were so proud to be recognized by San Antonio and the surrounding areas. We also are incredibly proud that our registrations grow with each market!
