Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Heyns.
Lucy, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
For years I was fascinated about photos. After having taken so many photos with a little compact camera I realized that I wanted to do more!
I signed up for art school and followed 4 years of Photography Classes in Belgium. After graduation I soon learned that I love to photograph newborn babies and families. I ended up attending workshops in Canada, Amsterdam, London, Dublin and Manchester from some amazing photographers I admired, to be able to produce art for you which meets my high standards.
I had my photography business for 4 years in Belgium before moving to the Nashville are at the end of 2016. Restarted there for 1 year before relocating to the Houston are at the end of 2017.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love it so much, being able to capture those moments in life that means so much to my customers and me.
I am a full service photographer which means I will try and help you deliver the best art products that matches their needs. I will help them through the complete process and work with them to find what they love most, what they would like to freeze in time and produce amazing art products that they will cherish forever.
I feel that we don’t have any family art anymore in our homes, only digital files stuck on a USB in a drawer. So for me it’s very important customers go home with real tangible art like frames or a canvas or a folio box or album. During my design consultation I visualize my customers’ interior and design their art on their own wall. They choose their favorite art and products and a few weeks later they pick up their finished art. It’s an exclusive service for every customer.
Almost every product I produce is handmade and exceptional museum quality. I want it to last to be able to pass it on to our next generations.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Running a profitable business. Too many times people think about photography as “pressing a button”.
But it’s not. It’s an art to be able to photography portraits in an artistic way. It comes with a lot of studying (preferable a degree) and a certain vision to be able to transform a client’s idea or vision in to a tangible art piece.
There goes a lot of work into one piece of art. And at the same time we need to run a business with everything that comes with it. And yes, we would love some profit too, to be able to feed our family.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a studio with a lot of samples. Every product I offer is available in the studio.
My portraits can be viewed on Facebook, Instagram as well as on my website
www.lucys-photography.com
The best way people can support my work is to make an appointment and come over to see what I have to offer. The products are amazing and so valuable for them and their families. It’s something all of us should have.
