Meet Johnathon Michael Espinoza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnathon Michael Espinoza.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve participated in many art competitions since Elementary school. I’ve always been serious about how I felt about art. It wasn’t until I graduated that I felt that this was important for me to pursue and can create a positive impact on this world. There wasn’t anyone in particular steering my path as an artist. I made it a point to grasp projects that interest me and would every evolve myself through my art.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is a vivid portal through my collective thoughts. The way my art is mapped out feels like a constellation of my world’s that are in a constant flux; clashing or connecting. Most of my art is free and fluid from the depths of my mind. It’s very natural at this point of my life. I feel that I’m mastering my own visions with speed, skill and precision. The goal for me is to create my own recognizable style.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
Right now I’m a panel discussion participant as well as a featured artist for an excellent event ‘VOX Culture’ is hosting at ‘Eureka Heights’. This is acting as a mini-expo. The topic being the role of the arts and green tech start-ups as they intersect, and what the impact means for Houston and future generations. I’ve always felt art thrives in times of uncertainty. This event as well as others with futurism as the focal point, involvement of artists in any way are elevating and vital to our existence as artists. It’s up to us to create an awareness and pivot our passions to build a better future.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Lately, I’ve been showing at Avant Garden with other local artists for a growing project called, ‘La Sopa’. I currently have work for sale exclusively at Mercantile- Rice Village. It’s a great coffee shop in which I’m curating a few pop up events to highlight other artists works that I feel should be seen. I always have events going on, whether it be fashion or art. I make an effort to seamlessly bond the two when the opportunity presents itself. My social networks are updated regularly in regards to this effort.
