Meet Lorie Boughton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorie Boughton.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started as an assistant for my husband (Jeff) when we owned Kingwood Pinups. He recently became ill and had to take a step back from photography. I had already started doing senior portraits, but with him retiring early from photography, I decided to jump into boudoir and glam portraits as well. It was a smooth transition as I already had the equipment and studio ready to go. All I needed to update was some of the props, lighting and lenses.

Please tell us about your art.
I absolutely LOVE what I do! I am extremely passionate about it and I think everyone who gets a split second to hear me talk about it will see that passion instantly. I focus on two different genres of photography and, like a mother who can’t pick a favorite child, I love them both equally! But for this, I will talk about my boudoir photography.

I make it a point to make sure whoever is in front of me knows that they are beautiful exactly the way they are. I encourage them to embrace who they are and be proud. I am all about body positivity and when they are with me I hope at the end of the day I made them see how the rest of the world sees them.

For my boudoir and glamour photography, a lot of women come to see me who have had struggles. They maybe do not see themselves how everyone else does. Maybe they are carrying a little extra weight or have a few more wrinkles or they think they are too skinny, too curvy or just not good enough. These women are mothers, wives, employees, daughters and sisters who give and give all day (year) long. They do not take the time they should to appreciate and celebrate the beautiful woman they are. They work too hard, raise their family, and don’t take time for themselves nearly enough. These are my people! I want to take that lady and show her exactly how those that love her most see her. They see her as strong and beautiful. If I can spend a few hours and let her see that then my heart is full. My tagline is “You are beautiful, let me show you.” I have 100% success rate at women walking out of my studio and finally feeling how they should, worth it.

We start with a pre-consultation. I love to chat about how they want to be photographed, why they want to be photographed and if it is for any special occasion (I get a lot of brides-to-be). They also hear about the different packages I offer and get to see and feel some of the items. My folios are handmade and imported from Italy so they are absolutely exquisite!

The day of the session, they start with hair and makeup. Every session includes professional hair and airbrushed makeup. They get the star treatment! This helps them relax a bit, get to know me a little better and just be pampered by me and my team. Once that is complete, we spend about an hour doing the shoot. I ask them to bring several different outfits and I have quite a bit of items on hand as well. Although a lot of the images are beautiful and sexy, we spend a lot of time laughing and joking during the session. It can be a bit awkward at first and I don’t want that to come across in the photos. So, we chat a lot and just make it fun!

Anywhere from 2-4 weeks after the photoshoot, the ladies come back in for their Reveal and Order session. I have a reveal wall with 20 of their images printed and a slide show with all of the edited images playing. This is the part where it can be a bit emotional. I keep tissues close by – for both of us! This will be the first time for them to see the images I captured. This will be the first time they see what others see, what their children, husbands, loved ones see. This is where they fall in love with who they are all over again.

Once they decide what images they want to purchase, they are wrapped up and get to take them home that day! They do not need to make any decisions on what they want to purchase until after they see the images at the reveal.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Thankfully we are all in or around the Houston area. There are a TON of ways to connect with other artists! For photography, I am in a handful of Facebook groups (Houston AP, woodlands photographers, etc.). If anyone is looking for something specific – just look. I am sure it is out there.
