Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Anthony Guzmán.
Mark Anthony, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started my interest in filmmaking when I was 6 years old; desperately trying to see Mel Gibson’s ‘Passion of the Christ’. My parents forbidden me from seeing it due to the gruesome violence in the film. So I waited till it came out on DVD. And when my eyes first gazed upon it, I was blown away of what I was just seeing. I knew the story of Jesus growing up in church but this was definitely a ‘picture are worth a thousand words’. I knew from then on out, I wanted to tell stories through the language of film.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make short films at the moment. With a small crew consisting of close friend and actors I find online. When the time is right, I will make my first feature film. Until then I study film and try to master the craft of cinema. I don’t think I will ever fully understand the true meaning of film, I can only try.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
You just need a camera, and your main subject. Don’t ever let money get in the way of creating your vision. Work with what you have and save up for more equipment down the road. It doesn’t cost a dime to have an imagination.
