Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy and Harry Proctor.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Betsy, Harry. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We opened the shop in 1993, specializing in art and antiques. Betsy painted canvas folk art and art on furniture in the early days while Harry worked in the oil business.
Time moved on and our life style changed with Harry retiring from the corporate world and beginning the restoration and sales of vintage Posters of all types including movie, war, travel, circus and advertising.
The business grew rapidly with the formation of our web site and the addition of a poster gallery at the back of the antique shop. Soon, we began tackling challenging projects of valuable and fragile Posters for customers from all over the world with Betsy applying her artistic skills and background in art to the conservation process.
We have 10 antiques and collectibles dealers in the shop displaying their wares as well. They carry a variety of collectibles from vintage Lladros and enamel signs to furniture and vinyl records.
Always the biggest challenge in any business is getting the word out! Our website at www.originalvintagemovieposters.com has really helped our business grow and attending shows such as the Coles and Red Barn Antique Show in Round Top and Comicpalooza in Houston. We also advertise extensively on Facebook.
Our last and biggest hurdle we overcame was the flood from Harvey last year. We took in 2 feet of water and lost over 600 Posters. We are in the slow process of re-restoring our Posters that were damaged as well as other customers who had water damaged posters and prints in need of help. We spent 6 weeks restoring our antique shops and poster gallery, which looks great with all new walls and floors!

We are the only shop in the State that specializes in poster and ephemeral restoration as well as sales and framing! We also carry vinyl and seem to attract a lot of young people who love to listen to the vintage vinyl and enjoy looking at the old posters! We also decorate media rooms with posters and accessories!
