Introducing TYGR Porche’ of Treats by TYGR in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to TYGR Porche’.

TYGR, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
With the assistance of my late grandmother, Frances Hall 1999, she visited my house from my home state Louisiana, New Orleans. When I was preparing some gifts that consist of pecan praline candy. She asked was I doing with them. My reply was giving them away as gifts for the holiday season doing the 4th of July. Her disarray told me you have two small little ones that you are raising, you can’t be just handing over money like that. At the moment as a single mother of two working two jobs and to school at the moment for my prePharmacy degree. Considering that it made complete since to me that I needed to more with the cooking talents that have under my belt. Several names wrote through my fingers on Callery Creek in Fort Bend Texas home.

Then on December 15, 1999, Treats by TYGR came into existence. Still working several jobs and going to school now and small business owner on a part-time basis. Time has pass met a couple of people like Ms. LaMonica Coleman mentored me into getting a DBA for I can be legit on December 20, 2007, is now doing business as Treats by TYGR. First paid event was a little before the business became public in November 2003 for Texas Southern University Thanksgiving party for 1500 people in the pharmacy department. Followed by Kelsey Seybld Clinics call center Christmas party in 2009. Then 2010, three events for leader Rev. Robert Jones Greater Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church for family and friends of 500 plus people. Another experience in 2011 under the leadership of Bishop E.L. Usher and TaWandaf or Greater Grace Outreach Church health fair. From 2007 to 2012 sold desserts: cookies, pecan praline and cakes to customers and the owner at Bey Internation Salon of Katrina Bey. Networking event for the Hope 2 Sisters organization in 2013. Grand opening event for a boutique sponsored by Lisa Love entertainment for 250 people in 2014. Between 2012 until May 8, 2015, taking small events due to my mother’s illness which then caused her die Mrs. Wanda L. P. D. Johnson. My last surviving parent which now from a single parent to an orphan who had no siblings.

From the strong teaching and upbringing of late Mr. Howard Darnell and late Mrs. Wanda Johnson, it took me a year to slightly bounce back. During this time of 2014 until now working as a longshoreman to assist me with getting Treats by TYGR back up a running. Now stronger than ever was a participant in 2017 for NFL Super Bowl LI. A line of events at Budweiser sponsorship from 2nd International mixer some other organizations that are not available for mentioning. Started this year off on February 27, 2018, for Port of Houston Small Business to April 1, 2018, the Anniversary celebration of ILA 24 building dedication for 1000 guest.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most small businesses it is a struggle. From lack of funds to keep the business a flow. With its ups and down the death of my last parent on May 8, 2015, which caused to be stronger yet touch. Afterward, my mother’s mother died as well. My mother left me a house that having trouble to renovate especially due Hurricane Harvey. FEMA keeps giving me a hard time to get things done to my home. So, between trying to survive, enjoy life and stay strong just typical obstacles and challenges to make me, my family and the business better for everyone else to enjoy.

Treats by TYGR – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Treats by TYGR catering service started in 2000. A New Orleans native that has a Texas swing. Pecan praline and Gumbo is the signature items for the company. From giving those items away for the holidays as a gift to people asking you ever thought about selling your product to people. Treats by TYGR do intimate gathering, small groups, conference meeting, and large engagements. Service are as followed: cooking lesson, nutritional consultant, the catering serves Creole cuisine: Gumbo, Jambalaya, Etoufee’ and etc. Desserts like: pecan candy, sweet potato pecan pie, turtle cheesecake, etc. Make your mouth happy and your stomach smiles with a combination of TexOrleans flavor with a twist.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being a participant in the National Football League Super Bowl LI.
