Today we’d like to introduce you to Marita Gardner-Anopol, E-CYT.
Marita, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 1977, an accident left me crippled. I was told by four (4) Orthopedic Doctors that I would never walk again without surgery. When I was healed by an 98-year-young-YOGA- teacher in a short time, I knew this was my calling and I continued to practice & train with her.
I began teaching yoga in 1978 and in 1995 pioneered YOGA 4 KIDS.
In 1998, I pioneered Yoga for Corporate America and in 2003, founded the Kingwood Yoga and Wellness Center.
2005, I designed and instituted the yoga curriculum for Lone Star College and taught at the Kingwood campus until 2010. The Dean of Education was jazzed by my mission ‘to incorporate yoga into schools’ and requested that I create “Yoga for Classroom Management” for the academic teacher which led to the creation of a 200-hour level therapeutic-yoga teacher training program for certification.
In the midst of the above, I created & published the Yoga 4 Kids Deck of Cards & the family board game Yoga 4 Kids, produced an instructional yoga DVD for kids, ages 8-12 and authored & published The Adventures of Yoga 4 Kids, the first in a series of educational, interactive story books in which children will learn the benefits of each yoga pose practiced.
I am grateful to share my love of yoga and the profound benefits it provides.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No.
Teaching yoga at a time when people thought it was a religion.
Learning to budget, month to month, running a seasonal business.
Juggling family time while solely running a business, after the demise of my husband in 2000.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kingwood Yoga and Wellness Center story. Tell us more about the business.
Pioneered teaching yoga as therapy in 1978.
I create yoga products for the home and classroom & I educate students-ages 4 & up, yoga teachers, educators, therapists and medical doctors.
The positive impact I have created in my local community of Kingwood, extending to Houston and surrounding districts.
What sets me apart from other yoga teachers and studios-I educate students to understand and teach therapeutic yoga as solutions for ailments.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I credit my success not so much in terms of luck but to the awareness and recognition of opportunities that present themselves, while maintaining a positive energy and focused effort.
