Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Oates, .
Alicia, , we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always loved art. I enjoyed studying and learning about artists and art history. I was always crafty and liked to create things. Painting and drawing have always been an obsession. My art career started later in my life. I’m a different kind of artist. I don’t do much canvas work or art to sell. I work with clients to help create private and commercial murals n signs and window painting. I enjoy being out of a studio and in public places interacting and working with people.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I have a diverse portfolio I specialize in murals and window painting. I also do signs and high end facepainting. I prefer to mix it up and keep it interesting. I love murals because they are permanent and a chance to be very creative. I love window painting because it is functional and a great way for me to interact with people. I love sign painting because typography and lettering are fascinating to me.
I love face painting because it is very fast and creative also it’s fun to go to parties all the time. I find facepainting to be a fun way to interact with kids and adults. I will paint just about anything but those are the things I paint the most of. I work full time as an artist. I hope to inspire people to try new things and not be afraid to learn something new. I hear all the time “I can’t draw a straight line”. My response is “of course you could if you wanted to take the time and learn you can do anything, …you just have to be willing to try.”
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think artists today have it pretty good. I find it easy to find other artists and be involved in friends projects through social media. Having an easy to access portfolio makes it easy to market and street people to a body of work.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is all over Houston and surrounding areas. I have painted murals windows and signs in public places and businesses. My Facebook and Instagram page are my most current and up to date. I post daily the projects I’m working on.
