Meet Trailblazer Krystal Hatchett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Hatchett.

Krystal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am an international model who has worked in the fashion industry for over 26 years. I kept readers fashion forward on the East Coast as a fashion columnist for North Shore Magazine and was a television personality for The E! Entertainment Network.

After previously helping women transform their wardrobe and individual style in boutique settings, I decided to transition my services to a more relaxed environment where clients can feel comfortable in their personal space. I continue to work and travel around the globe and enjoy the beauty and energy of fashion.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The transition to being on the runway and in front of the camera to behind the scenes was seamless. As a model, it is your job to sell the clothes. You learn trends, fabrics, what works for different body types and what doesn’t e.t.c. I felt confident, I can relate to women very easily and am a good listener, my skill set was not tested because I knew the industry. I did have to learn the business aspect of fashion when I started KRYSTAL H STYLES two years ago. I researched the complexities of starting a small business, I have girlfriends who own
boutiques so they were gold mines of information. To any young woman who is just starting out in any career, my advice is to shadow a person who is already doing what you want to do. Write down questions to ask, use online tools, do the leg work. I have found when people can see that you are passionate about something, they are willing to do all they can to help you realize your dreams. You can’t be afraid and if you are “Do it scared” but STILL DO IT!!! Fear can oftentimes propel you to greatness and you uncover a hidden strength that you never knew you possessed.

We’d love to hear more about KRYSTAL H STYLES.
I have a series of services that I provide, here are a few. Seasonal Style Essentials, so clients know the “Must Haves” for the upcoming season.

Kids Closet Klean Out, children are constantly growing and their closets can become very easily cluttered. I edit children’s closets and donate clothes they can no longer wear to make room for their current and future clothing.

Closet Therapy, where I do closet edits and retain wardrobe essentials which help women take the guess
work out of getting dressed for work, daily wear and special occasions.

Because of my many years in the fashion industry and working in boutiques, many women hire me to update their personal style and help them step out of their comfort zone!!! Many women come to me because I KNOW FASHION and they trust I will give them a fresh new start!

My goal with KHS is to help foster clients fashion rediscovery through the outward appearance, which in turn paves the way for the internal beauty to shine. Individuality is beautiful and every person deserves to feel SPECTACULAR inside and out!

I assemble Conference and Speaking Engagement KHS Look Books where I pair and photograph complete outfits and prepare personalized books with written notes as a visual reminder for the client so they know what to wear for each event throughout their travel.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
My parents gave us the freedom to be whatever we wanted. We did not have the pressure to conform or adhere to any social rules or customs as in settle down and get married.

My mother and father were both trailblazers in their fields. My father was one of the first African Americans to have a law practice in Pontiac, Michigan and my mother has two Doctorates, one in Social Work and the other in Psychology and is a Rhodes Scholar. They set the bar VERY high for us both professionally personally. I have four siblings, three sisters and one brother. None of my sisters have children and I have only one son, who I birthed at 35. We were never told that we had to get married or have children. That gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted in our careers, take risks and walk the paths that we chose. My parents (especially my mother) also instilled the importance of believing in a higher power. So, no matter what challenges life brings your way, you can recognize this too shall pass and know you are not alone. Because of my upbringing, I am extremely inclusive, open-minded and spontaneous. I love meeting new people, traveling the world with my partner and son and I have a great Zeal for life!!
