Conversations with the Inspiring Daisy Ceniceros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Ceniceros.

Daisy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started planning my quinceanera at age 10, I was excited and counting down the years for my big sweet 15. The most important detail of my planning was “How am I going to look?”. I had to have the perfect dress to hair and of course, my makeup! Once I found my dress and hairstylist, I began looking for a makeup artist all over Houston. I saw many talented artists at an event called “Weddings & Quinceneara Expo” 2011 at the George R Brown Convention and I found one that caught my eye! She displayed her work of makeup she’s done for events and I was “SHOOK”. It was very distinct from the rest and I immediately booked her for my party in 2012.
Once the day finally arrived, she came in with her makeup kit and evenly spread out her products on my kitchen table. Admiring all of her products, this was probably the first moment when I thought, “WOW, I want to be a makeup artist.” Of course, she slew my makeup and I was feeling like an actual princess the entire day. This led to me applying at my local beauty school at age 16 to achieve my cosmetology license.

I met an incredible person who is a celebrity hair and makeup artist, who invited me to be a makeup artist at several fashion shows in Houston. Being in a fast pace environment has helped me gain more experience in a very short time. My passion for makeup kept growing and growing each year, I was hungry to learn more! I decided in 2017 to apply to Sephora and I am so thankful that I did. I learn more every single day at work about products and their ingredients as well as customer service. It also pushed me to be more creative with makeup, I attempt new and inspired looks more so than before. Today, the world of Instagram became home to expose my makeup artistry. There are millions of extremely talented artists that I watch every day as I still am in awe as I did at age 15. I aspire to give my clients the same feeling on their special or any day as it was given to me.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. There have been years where I felt discouraged and didn’t believe I had the “talent”. Though in my journey I found out that doing makeup isn’t a talent, it requires work and patience just as any other career. If you are passionate about makeup or really anything, GO FOR IT. As simple asking your mom, sister, friend, a friend of a friend, to do their makeup, girl does it. Practice as much as you can. And don’t be afraid of rejection because there will be rainy days. You have to carry in your mind and heart that you will be successful and you will make it successfully to where you want to be. Be positive and believe in yourself. Smudge an eyeliner? Grab your smudge brush and make it a LOOK.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Daisy Arely MUA story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a certified makeup artist and a licensed cosmetologist. In Texas, to become a makeup artist does not require any form of certification or license. Though, I decided to obtain a license in cosmetology to ensure my clients that I am “Texas-approved” in giving high-quality and hygiene in my makeup services. I recently became a certified makeup artist through Sephora. I love giving makeup services because being apart of someone’s special day (whether it is a wedding or a girl’s night out) is self-rewarding to have brightened their day even more.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Since, I was that 10-year-old planning her sweet 15 equivalently to a bride planning her wedding was a huge factor in my discovery. I dreamt of being a makeup artist passing out my business cards at the “Wedding & Quinceanera Expo” at the George R. Brown Convention. It was a very specific goal that I successfully achieved this year in January! Woo-hoo!
