Meet Kate Johnston of LeSugar Salon in Tomball

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Johnston.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kate. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It really all started when I was little, I loved playing with my barbies hair, friend’s hair, and any hair I could get my hands on! When I was in high school, I decided to take cosmetology as one of my classes and naturally ended up loving it. From there, I got licensed and started working in a busy salon where I apprenticed for about two years. After that, I was able to start taking clients on my own and have always worked as hard as possible to grow, expand my knowledge of all things hair, and build a great clientele which has led me to where I am today owning my own salon!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road, a couple years into doing hair, I got really sick to the point that it was super hard for me to stand all day while constantly entertaining clients, making sure needs were met, and keeping my work up to my perfectionist standards! I finally figured out that I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis which is an autoimmune disorder, so I really have to keep my body healthy and stress levels low to be able to do what I love and do every day!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My salon is called: LeSugar Salon we are a full-service hair salon specializing in color, precision cutting, and extensions. We are constantly evolving and learning to keep up with the best of the best. We are probably most known for our free hand color painting which is also known as balayage. I would say, I am most proud of our ability to listen to and learn exactly what our clients want to make them feel beautiful and relaxed in our comfortable salon environment. What sets us apart is our creativity as a whole and our warm family run salon. we are in an old house in downtown Tomball and we decorated and set everything up ourselves. We love our bright pink paint on the outside of the building the most. Also, we genuinely love and care about each one of our guests and do everything we can to make everyone who sits in our chairs feel beautiful and able to be their best selves.

What were you like growing up?
When I was growing up I was pretty creative I loved anything to with art and color. I also loved being outside, going on adventures and hanging out with my friends. I loved doing all my friend’s makeup and hair (of course) any chance I would get I would be doing someone’s hair!
