Check out Sara Hunt’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Hunt.

Sara, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am the owner of Sara Hunt Photography and have been photographing newborns, children and families for 5+ years now. I live in Pearland, Texas but meet clients for sessions all across the Houston area. My love for photography began with the birth of our first son, Ethan. My husband bought me a starter camera and I began taking pictures of Ethan “just for fun”. Slowly it became an addiction, and I started spending hours researching online, getting to know the basics of my camera and photoshop. After a couple years of practice and finally gaining confidence I started taking pictures for friends and family and then slowly started taking on actual clients.

I worked full time at MD Anderson as a radiation therapist for 9 years while juggling photography on the side. It was amazing to work at the best cancer facility in the world and to be able to help so many patients fight such a terrible disease. But trying to balance work, family and a new love for photography quickly became too much and I realized I needed to make a change. So, I took a HUGE leap of faith and decided to leave my job as a therapist to focus on family and my photography career. And it was the best decision ever! I absolutely love what I do and have no regrets!

When I’m not working I love traveling, going antiquing with my mom, and spending time with my husband and three beautiful children, Ethan, Avery and Harley.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My primary focus is newborn, maternity and fine art child photography. I’d say my favorite is working with newborn babies. I feel it is so important to capture those first moments as a fresh new baby. My sessions are customized to each and every client. I love creating unique and timeless images for newborn sessions, such as vibrant, colorful setups or a rustic, organic type feel depending on the client’s requests. I also love when clients bring their babies back throughout their first year so that I can capture how much they’ve grown and changed at each important milestone.

Fine Art child sessions are also a huge favorite of mine. I love capturing the innocence of a child and being able to bring their imagination to life. These sessions are usually themed based and filled with fun, imagination and creativity. My fine art sessions can be as simple as bubble baths at the creek or as extravagant as a princess with her unicorn…the possibilities are endless! I am drawn to dramatic and magical imagery, which reflects in my work. Transforming a boring, simple image into a dramatic, vibrant piece of art is my ultimate goal for my clients. It’s not just about the click of the camera…it’s about the “behind the scenes” magic that takes place after the session! My hope is for people to see the difference in just a normal, everyday photo compared to a dramatically beautiful “fine art” image.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I feel it is becoming harder and harder for artists and small business owners to get recognized today. With all of the recent changes with social media it is definitely challenging for our businesses to be “seen”. I think supporting each other through social media platforms as well as sending and referring potential client leads to others will definitely help our city thrive!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
