Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Miller.
Amy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was younger my parents let me try a bunch of sports and multiple kid activities. I was always asking to go back to the dance studio or asking when is dance? I loved all my dance teachers. However, one in particular, Veda Burton, believed in me from the moment we met and always told me that being a dance teacher was in my future.
As much as I tried to further my education and get away from dance the more dance kept jumping back in my face offering me so many opportunities. Finally accepting how much I truly loved dance and realizing I could help so many people of all ages love the art of dance my career took off!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been times that have been far away from smooth. Whatever has happened and is thrown in my way I look toward the positive side of things and push through.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with works at Athletistry Performing Arts Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have been in the dance industry for over 25 years. My journey has allowed me to travel to other countries and states teaching, judging, choreographing, and performing. My specialty is being able to work with all ages and enjoy them all.
It is a special skill to seamlessly go from teaching a pre-school tap class to an elementary hip hop class to an advanced jazz class guiding all students to push themselves and get the most out of their dance ability. Dance is what I live for every day!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue personal growth. I will constantly push myself to take classes, stay knowledgeable, and current within the dance industry. There is always something to improve and as a teacher, if I stop learning my students will stop learning.
