Meet Sandra Burgess of TexasYogini

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Burgess.

Sandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My therapeutic yoga career began as an accident – literally – a head-on near-death automobile accident that ended my professional beach volleyball career in 1997. I had been practicing and teaching Astanga yoga and thanks to many talented and generous Iyengar teachers like Marti-Parker Krauss I regained my health, vitality and began a new career – teaching therapeutic yoga and mindfulness.

I am a certified yoga therapist with the IAYT and a certified iRest Yoga Nidra teacher and moved to Houston with my husband, a minimally-invasive cardiac surgeon specializing in atrial fibrillation. I design programs for cardiac and pulmonary patients, cancer patients, veterans suffering with PTSD and am an international speaker on the benefits of incorporating yoga and mindfulness in a traditional rehabilitation setting.

Has it been a smooth road?
Describing this ride as a ‘road’ would imply a destination or a goal, with a set pathway upon which we travel. Rather than struggles, there have been opportunities steeped in the unpredictable mysteries of nature. As the waves form and dissipate, our challenge is to bend our knees and keep riding!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the TexasYogini story. Tell us more about the business.
TexasYogini is known for the quality of our teachers and the passion we have for the community within the kula. No one escapes without a hug. We keep the classes small and intimate, with plenty of personal attention. If you are interested in highly qualified teachers and yoga therapists who personalize to your needs and teach you self-care techniques, we are your home studio!
