Meet Angela Espinoza of Right Choice Tax and Insurance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Espinoza.

Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I actually got into doing taxes after working for 24 Hour fitness for many years. I needed a change of pace a “break “ from long hours and stress. I was approached by some peers to help start their tax company. After helping them for a few years I decided to part from them. My intention was not to actually go back into taxes but life got ahold of me and I was facing some life changes. I said to myself either I have to go back to the gym industry or step out on Faith and make enough money to pay rent and bills.

I had my daughter when I was fifteen years old and yet I had plenty of support from family and friends. I vowed to my self never to have to ask for help raising or taking care of my daughter. I can remember being pregnant in high school and a teacher telling me “you know you ruined your future by getting pregnant so young” that stayed with me till this day maybe even some driving force to prove society wrong . My belief is and always will be that I was never going to be a statistic and that yet my daughter wasn’t planned at the best time I wasn’t going to let that be a reason not to succeed in life but that be my very reason to succeed . My daughter has and always will be my reason.

Rewind to 2010, going through a divorce leaving my home of 10years life was definitely challenging at that time. I felt like my world was coming down very quickly. So it was fight or flight like they say I said let’s do this! Right choice was created on a napkin an idea of that I would never have thought would be where it is today. I had recently divorced, had no job and ironically my tax refund saved of 8000. Dollars to start and fund Right Choice . I quickly realized commercial rent was not cheap and almost gave up.

Till one day I was driving in Deer Park and I saw a small sign that said space for rent. I called the number and the owner said yes we have office space for lease. He showed me the office and said how is 500 dollars a month all bills paid and you can even use the desk and furniture if you’d like. I was in shock I knew defiantly God had his hands in this. So I had one desk, one computer, and old friend. Who actually came back to Houston from being in California for a while and she said sure I’ll help you just pay me what you can. Wow! Things fell into place. My family and friends came together to help market and refer Right Choice.

My vision was to change the Tax experience. Create long life relationships with our clients. “Where we treat you like family” Give good old fashion customer service. Taxes can be a scary thing and we take our time and explain and break down Things that can be complicated and confusing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If things were easy and smooth I believe everyone would start a business. We have defiantly experienced growing pains. My partner Luis was able to leave his full-time job and come on full time was a huge help. Training and developing people in the tax business takes time and can be stressful Having the right people and able to keep our service promise. It’s not easy finding people who want to do taxes.

We have been blessed with an amazing team they are energetic eager to continue to learn and most of all they believe in what we believe in. Tax time is very long hours day in day out. We all have very supportive spouses and significant others. I don’t think I could make things all come together without my husband Sidney. He always makes the hard days easier. Overall I think we secretly love the grind of tax season.

Please tell us about Right Choice Tax and Insurance.
We are small but growing income tax preparation firm. We also are an insurance brokerage that writes for companies such as progressive, Swift, Accc to name a few. We specialize in individual and small business income tax preparation. Also for our insurance side of the business, we specialize in auto, home and commercial insurance.

We take a lot of pride in what we do and how we treat our clients. We truly care about the tax experience from the scheduling of appointment till the funds from the IRS are deposited. Our number one goal in mind is service, compliance, and accuracy.

I am most proud of the relationships that are created in our office. I truly believe our clients see us as friends even family. We become apart of their household their lives. We truly care about the well being of our clients. It’s not just a one time a year visit to your tax office wondering if they’ll be around a year from now. People stop by all year to say hi invite us to weddings, baby showers . and many quinces. I just love it! Secondly, I am very proud of the team we have. These individuals are the most loyal.

Hard working people I have ever met. The ability to give these guys and gals opportunities to grow with us and grow as a young professional is priceless. A long time ago a mentor told me “lift as you climb.” I believe we are doing that. My partner and I always have our staffs best interest first. We are not just your typical tax and insurance company I know Clients realize that first impression when you come see us. We want to continue to change the tax and insurance experience.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
To be honest, I don’t think I would have done anything differently. I believe things you go through are for a reason to learn something from it, grow from it. We do a series of our staff training every year called start, stop, and continue.

We put our heads together and create or take away things that work and don’t. I am very proud of where I came from in the beginning of this journey. I am very excited for our future. Without mistakes, you don’t learn and get challenged to be the best you can be in the industry you serve.
