Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Simmons.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Photography, for me, started out as a hobby. A fun way to capture smiles of friends and family and then eventually my own children. The more I learned about lighting, camera settings, etc, the more I wanted to know. I worked hard at learning about photography and still to this day continue to learn and further educate myself. My favorite thing to photograph is birth. There is so much raw emotion, nothing is “posed”. Just 100% real.
I’m able to capture first looks of the baby from mom and dad. Images they would never be able to see for themselves.
I also love weddings for this same reason. I like to tell the story of love and create memories for couples. During a session we joke, we laugh, we have fun. And amazing images come from it that have a special meaning only the couple and I know. It’s the best feeling in the world to give that to people.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road lol. I’m a mom of three. So being able to manage time to spend with them and be there for them at the same time as growing my business can get a little difficult. But each and every struggle or obstacle that has gotten in my way, I pray about. I know God will take my business and myself where it’s supposed to go.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Katy Simmons Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I started out specializing in family sessions. I have branched off into seniors, weddings, maternity. I kind of do it all lol. Weddings and seniors have been big on my list lately but I still enjoy doing everything else as well. I am most proud of how far I have come and accomplished. I am a mom, a wife, a Christian. To be able to take what I love to do and turn it into something that others can enjoy is just beyond words.
I like to say that what sets me apart from others is that my clients are just clients. They become family. I get to know them personally and even after our session is complete, we stay in touch. I’m always there for them even beyond just photography sessions.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck lol. I believe in hard work, in goals, and most importantly in God. Life can be tough. It will always have its ups and downs. But I know that as long as I have God and my family, everything will always work out the way it’s meant too.
