Today we’d like to introduce you to Hong Dam.
Hong, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Currently, I’m a fashion design student with an online shop selling clothing, plushies, and accessories.
Since middle school, I’ve always wanted to start my own online shop. I didn’t know how to go about it because I was a kid, so I just sold random handmade stuff, such as hairbows, crochet plush keychains, and elastic bow belts at school. After I graduated high school, I was about to start my online shop but fell into depression. I had just got out of a pointless relationship, became unemployed, and wasn’t able to go to college that year. I was a NEET, which was something I never thought would happen to me.
What got me out of that rut: Avatar the Last Airbender. That show inspired and motivated me. I started my shop and surprisingly began doing well. Soon after that, I achieved getting an awesome part-time job on the side to help fund my shop and future schooling. As sales grew, I was motivated to grab more orders, so I went out and did some cosplay commissions to help me learn more. I was self-taught before going to college to pursue fashion design.
Where I am now: found my soulmate, my online shop is pretty much my job, and I’m in the best college that I could imagine while living, for the most part, independently.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it’s been a smooth road for me. I worked hard to study and prepare for what I was trying to accomplish. Working hard definitely takes you on a smooth road.
What should we know about qtpill? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’ve sold clothes, cosplays, plushies, jewelry, and accessories. As of now, I’m a fashion design student that specializes in making fashionable clothes. My brand is known for being reasonably affordable and I’m very proud of it. I have strategies on how to minimize material costs (but still staying high quality!) so that I can market my creations to all people.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Since I saw how my business grew and the potential of it, I always wished I started sooner. My advice to anyone would be to just go for it because the now is what matters; don’t wait for the future.
