Meet Trailblazer Yolanda Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Thomas.

Yolanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a love for fashion going back when I was five years old. I would see women dress to the nine, and I knew that would be me someday. I got my first taste of fashion when I looked back at my mom photos, and she knew how to dress. I was in awe and would always play dress up. I knew fashion is what I loved, but the bug really hit me when I started my blog. CurlyPetiteRenee was born, and I look forward to really pushing myself on my fashions. Oftentimes I wear trendy clothes, but I have really fallen in love with the thought of wearing what looks great on me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say for the most part it has gone just the way I envisioned it would. I’ve met some amazing women blogging, and learned so much about myself during the process. Fashion is about taking risks, and I plan to push the envelope as often as possible. The only advice I would give is, stay true to yourself, and don’t be afraid to reach out to others for help.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CurlyPetiteRenee – what should we know?
I started CurlyPetiteRenee in 2017, as a way to document my fashions. As a result of others wanting to know about my clothes, I knew a fashion blog was definitely what I needed to do. The name came easy to me, as my hair is curly, and I’m a petite girl, and last, my name is Renee. So, the only logical choice was to put them all together. I would eventually like to take my blog to another level, and start to hold events. Sharing what I’ve learned along the way, and ways to style clothes you already have in your closet. I feel what sets me apart is I’m very genuine and let my readers know fashion shouldn’t cost a fortune to look good. So many people feel the way to look good, is to buy expensive clothing. I Always follow my mom’s advice, the clothes don’t make the person, the person wearing them does.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Yes, I do. We all want to look great in our clothes. No challenge is too BIG for us. When we as “WOMEN” work together we can do anything. More women today are breaking down barriers and becoming girl bosses. Having the right support system is key in all that we do. The opportunities will naturally come. At the end of the day, the end goal is to get your product in the public eye, and believe in it, and watch the opportunities come.
