Life and Work with Jennifer Metzler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Metzler.

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was a little girl, I loved going to the mall with my mom and aunt. While we were there, time seemed to fly by. I remember leaving the mall one day and my aunt telling my mom that I could probably spend all day shopping. Fast forward to years later, she was right. I have always loved fashion and dressing up has always been one of my favorite things to do. I also noticed that in my group of friends, I was always called the trendy one. I would often be asked for help in putting my friend’s outfits together.

I have also loved writing for a long time as well. I graduated from The University of Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. While in college I noticed that everyone would be intimidated when an essay was assigned, but I would get excited. I would often get A’s on my essays. Later, I befriended a lady who had her own blog at the time. She would often ask me to write a guest blog post on her site. This was one of the first times that I had blogged. Not too long after that, I signed up to be a frequent quest post writer for another website that was called skinnymom.com. I was able to post a couple of blog post on their site. At the time, I was really amazed that I had acquired this opportunity since I did not have a blog of my own at the time and I had only written a guest blog post for my friend’s blog. I look back now and I am so thankful for these opportunities. They helped me get a better understanding of blogging which then led to having a desire to have my own blog.

I’d also like to mention that I am a mom of 3 boys. I started my blog for 2 main reasons. The biggest one is that I am the only girl in my house. I needed an outlet for all of the glitter and glam that was becoming pent up inside of me. I needed something that was for me. That’s where my blog came into existence. I had an itch for blogging but I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to blog about. I am also a very hands on DIY person. I toyed around with that idea as well. I started to look around at my friends I realized many of them have their own businesses. I didn’t want to do the same things they were doing but I wanted to stand out with my own brand. That’s when I started to think about fashion. Fashion as always come naturally to me and as I mentioned I was also being called the fashionable one in the group. That is when The Fashionable Maven was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
I haven’t had too many obstacles along the way but more challenges for sure. One big one is time, I am a full-time mom. I have 3 little boys that I love so much! Since I have my boys with me full-time, it can be a little more difficult for me to having time for myself to create content for my blog or social media channels. I mostly work on my blog site when they are napping or when they are in bed, I also take this time to learn new skills and better ways to make my blog more successful. I also am not able to make it to many daytime events since my kids are with me. Thankfully, I have a supportive husband that watches the kids at night, so that I can go to blogger events around town in the evenings. I believe having a support system is really key. I couldn’t do this without the support that I receive from my family and other bloggers as well.

I use every challenge as motivation to push me further. I have goals that I want to achieve for my blog and my family. I am determined to give this my best and I am really excited to see what the future holds. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about quitting, DON’T GIVE UP! If I can do this as a full-time mom so can you.

Along with challenges, I have had some amazing accomplishments. One of them being featured on Targets website in their awesome shop. I was so shocked when they messaged me about being featured on their site. They also follow me. I have also had Michael Kors do the same. The brands Kendra Scott, Fossil, Muk Luks and several others have also liked or featured my work.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Fashionable Maven – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My blog style is bold, vibrant, and feminine. I believe in skirts and twirling around in them. I believe in color because when you look at our world is full of it. I believe in pink, it’s so bold and pretty. I believe in functional and stylish clothes since I am always chasing after little ones. I believe in dangling earrings and statement necklaces. I believe in oh so cute clutches that hold just the right about of stuff in them. I believe that fashion is for you. On The Fashionable Maven, you will find just that.

I also love sharing my daily activities on my instastories as well. I feel like it is a quick and easy way to let others get a glimpse into my life that isn’t as prim and curated as my IG feed. I love interacting with my followers too and other likeminded individuals.

You can also find me at many social events around town monthly. I love getting to know other bloggers, content creators, boutique owners, and everyone else too. I love being able to share with others my life as I experience it.

I guess I am known for wearing a lot of pink and buying pink items. That’s what I notice a lot of girls tell me. I am unique because I am me and no one else in the world is me.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
As for motivation, I get most of that from watching and following other boss babes slay in their fields. It fires me up. I love hearing their stories about how they started from the ground up and I love how they are always so willing to lend helpful advice. Blogging really is a community.

I am also a part of several blogger groups. They have honestly helped me the most. I have been able to build relationships with other women who have the same goals as me. We all help each other with the ins and outs of blogging, as well as the ups and inevitable downs. I am part of the Houston Latina Bloggers group, they are such an amazing group of women. I am also apart of the LiketoKNOW.it community. This has been a fun adventure. I also recently joined the Style Collective blogging community. All of these have helped me with my blog and my brand in some way or another.

For apps, I use VSCO, Planoly and facetune.
