Tammy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for encouraging people. Whether it’s offering a smile or just advice. 17 years ago, I had to get serious about setting the foundation for a career. Taking the advice of a friend, I wrote down all of the things that I love to do that could transfer into a career path. This way, I was able to work in the field that I would always have a passion for. If you assumed fashion, hair, and makeup were on that list you’re right! Growing up, I would watch all the latest trends coming from Europe on a Saturday TV show. Beauty, fashion, people will never go out of style! So, I decided to initiate this journey by applying to MAC Cosmetics at The Woodlands Mall. After submitting my application, I called the manager every day for a week after submitting my application I called the manager every day for a week! ( I wouldn’t suggest doing that, lol) after the seventh phone call, the MAC Cosmetics manager kindly replied with,” I will call you want to position becomes available “(lol).
And as fate would have it, she called me a week later with a holiday season position that was only supposed to last until the end of the Christmas holidays. Luckily, that seasonal position turned into a 15-hour part-time position, and within six months I was the backup manager! I had a great career with Mac and I contribute a lot of my make up application skills and professionalism to the company. After getting married and becoming pregnant with my second child, I wanted to have a work /life balance and created my own freelance business which is my thriving business today. Flawlessenvy Beauty offers freelance and in-salon makeup application services, as well as Xtremelashes eyelash extensions, Elleebana, lash lift and tint services, as well as hair services.

Has it been a smooth road?
Sacrifice is the first word that comes to mind. When starting anything you have to put in the work! What that could translate into is watching YouTube tutorials, offering your services to Community organizations ( i.e women’s shelters, teen homes, senior living establishments, etc) It’s a great way to learn how to work on different skin textures, eye shapes and skin complexion’s. Professionalism and sanitation are two key elements that do not go unnoticed in this field! Always make sure your appearance is neat, clean, and polished. Take the time to research safety and sanitation procedures when applying makeup. I remember working at MAC if we even suspected a client had questionable open sore or wound we would discard all products used. We never risk putting other clients in harms way! Neither should you! Use disposable applicators, and use hospital grade disinfectants to clean off all of your brushes and pallets. Most important the survival of your business depends on customer service! Over 90% of my business is referrals! Clients never forget how you made them feel and look!

I’m Blessed because my clients are confident when referring my services to their friends and family, and I’m grateful for them because they are the reason I’ve had a successful 17-year career!
Who have you been inspired by?
My mother! She has handled everything life has dealt her with integrity and grace! What she has taught me and has resonated with me my whole life was to access every situation, gain the wisdom from it and go forward to make wiser decisions!
