Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Mei.
Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was working full-time as a graphic designer until 2012 when I had my son. Since then, I’ve enjoyed staying home and being a mama to two very energetic kiddos – Ian, 5 & Nora, 2.
Creativity has been a big part my motherhood journey – from nursery decor and first birthday parties, to even potty training sticker charts – I just love dreaming up a project and seeing it through. Crafting and designing has definitely been an outlet for me – I find that I am happier when I get to be creative and I think everyone, especially my husband and kids, can benefit from that! And after 5 years of weaving creativity and motherhood, I want to share what I love to do with others – enter MAMAMEIDIT.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Since last September, I’ve put on four different DIY workshops and have received positive feedback from the attendees. Even ladies who claim to be “not crafty” enjoyed themselves and were amazed that they completed the project themselves – and that just makes my day!
Although I’d love for moms to come to enjoy a few hours away, the challenge and reality is that lining up childcare is not always easy. I totally understand and I’ve been experimenting with different days and times for workshops to see what works best. Moving forward, I will also look into having onsite childcare available.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MAMAMEIDIT – what should we know?
MAMAMEIDIT is a crafty workshop, focusing on practical DIYs for the home and on the go. My goal is to bring color and style to projects that will organize, repurpose, and simplify all things #momlife. It is a place for mama and her friends to get away for a few hours, connect, and be creative!
The idea of MAMAMEIDIT has been on my heart as I envisioned something that would combine my love for motherhood, crafting, and girl time! I love Pinterest and saving great ideas, but I understand that in reality, it can be hard to get to the craft store to gather all the materials, read the instructions, and then find time to sit down and actually do it! At a MAMAMEIDIT workshop, everything is prepared for you so all you have to do is show up! I will be there to guide you, and you will leave with a completed project! All while having FUN because crafting with friends is always better!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
YES! They say it takes a village – and it really does. Without the help of my family, I would not be able to put on these workshops. They rally behind me – whether it’s watching the kids, spreading the word about MAMAMEIDIT or attending the workshops themselves – they make it possible for me to pursue this! They deserve all the credit!
