Meet Michael C. Rodd of MCR Machine Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael C. Rodd.

Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a machinist for 20 years working for other shops. I knew if I didn’t try and start my own shop at that point in my life that I would regret not going for it, So I did. All I had was a one-page business plan and somehow was able to get financing on my first machine. I worked my current job from 6 am till 6 pm then went to my shop and worked into the night. I did this for 9 months.

At that point, I was confident enough to quit my full-time job and go to work for myself. I bought a new machine every 12 months financed them for 5 years. then after the first 5 years, I was paying off a machine every year. So Fast forward 12 years and we are still going strong. We do a lot of work for the oil field here in Houston and it has been very slow the past 3 years. But it is looking better each day.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The stress of doing it all by myself, No one to help me at times. but You find a way to get through it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MCR Machine Houston – what should we know?
