Art & Life with Alex Broussard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Broussard.

Alex, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started picking up a camera in high school. My best friend bought this cool Nikon camera and during our band trips to games she would bring it. Literally we were on the bus taking so many selfies with it! Once I got into college my aunt bought me my own canon T3 for Christmas and let me tell you once I took it out the box I was snapping photos like crazy. Not entirely knowing what I was doing! So, then I said hey! Let me see if the newspaper at my university (Sam Houston State University) needs a photographer? Sure, enough they needed a sports photographer! Didn’t know anything about sport photography but went with it anyways and after my first game, I was hooked! After 3yrs of doing sports photography, I decided to tap into more of my creative side and do all kinds of pictures from portraits to industrial photography…you name it, I most likely shot it!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Well I am a photographer, I don’t have a specific niche but most of photos are Somewhat dark not like dark in a sedistic way but editing wise, I just like the look of it. Whatever catches my eyes I just take it!

I want people to know that don’t be afraid of taking risk. This is what makes you grow! Sometimes I can be unsure of myself and we are only human! But it’s really up to you to step out and just do it!

My artwork is a reflection of me! I’m very particular about how my art looks. You might not like it but I love it and that’s all that matters. Unless you are a client, then that’s a different story. Lol!!

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I think artist are becoming more vocal about certain issues that are going on right now! I think that’s a great thing because some artist doesn’t know how to vocalize their concerns so instead they put it in a song or on a canvas, etc.

I definitely feel that I have to showcase minorities and woman empowerment in a lot of my photos. Just to remind people like listen! We are here and we not going nowhere! So, you might as well get used to it! We winning over here!
