Conversations with the Inspiring Lydia Ezeakor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Ezeakor.

Lydia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started modeling about 8 years ago and it’s always been something I’m interested in. Not only do I love modeling but I also love photography. I don’t own a giant camera but if I see something photo-worthy, I’ll more than likely take a picture on my iPhone. Less than a year ago, I decided to write reviews about the restaurants that I visit. I love to eat and I love writing, so I suppose that’s how The Life of Lydia came about. It documents the photoshoots that I do and the restaurants and bars that I visit.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The ride with modeling has been about as smooth as Westheimer inside the loop (mega bumpy). I often get discouraged and overthink things because I love it so much. These days, I tell myself not to take it too seriously and just go with the flow. Everything takes time and the best things are worth waiting for. As far as restaurant reviews go, things have been coming quite naturally. Sharing my experience with others feels right and plus, I have an excuse to eat. My advice to younger women just starting out is don’t take life too seriously. It’s so unpredictable and in the end none of us will make it out alive. Don’t be afraid to try new things and always follow your heart, but, of course, take your brain with you.

What should we know about The Life of Lydia? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I believe I’m most known for my modeling, but I hope to become more known for my involvement in the restaurant/food industry. I don’t consider myself a food blogger because my goal is to provide readers with so much more than my opinion on how the food tastes. I’m really big on ambiance as well! I provide readers with descriptions about the overall vibe of the restaurant, pricing, service, cocktails, appropriate attire and of course — food! I make sure to take photos of the decor too. So, I’m really hoping that my website becomes a go-to site for those looking to venture out to places that aren’t as popular in Houston.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
I wish I could give advice about networking or finding a mentor but that is something I’m working on. At the moment, I’m terrible at networking but I do know its very important and helpful. If anyone reading this has suggestions for me, please let me know!
