Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Daboul.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a young child, my love for beauty was always very evident. My obsession with makeup came at a very early age. I always knew that cosmetics and skincare was something very close to my heart, and a passion I would one day pursue. In 2006, I began a five-year career as a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics. I specialized in Photography, Runway, Theatrical, and Bridal Makeup. While at MAC, I also pursued my dreams of becoming a licensed Esthetician. I graduated in 2009 from the Institute of Cosmetology and Esthetics in Houston, Texas. I am certified and licensed to perform Facials, Waxing, Threading, Chemical Peels, Dermaplaining, Microdermabrasion, Micro-Needling, SprayTanning, LVL Lash Lifting, Lamprobing, and Ear-piercing.
After perfecting my skills working at a Dayspa for many years in Houston, I realized it was time for me to grow. January 2014, I began a new journey in life when I opened my own Esthetics • Makeup • Eyebrows • Spraytan studio. Since then, I’ve launched my own Matt Cream Lipstick -{SKŸNN By JD} which has been a great addition to my business. And while I am a perfectionist/specialist at everything I do, eyebrow shaping is my award winning specialty. Pampering my clients and sending them off with a smile, is what I live for!
Has it been a smooth road?
Being a business owner is not easy… but I think when you love what you do it makes it more gratifying. Being organized and keeping track of your clientele, your finance, and continued education are the most important aspects of a successful business. There are some stressful moments, but you should never give up. The end result is doing what you love and making others feel good about themselves. Take your time, coming up with a business model, sticking to what you’re good at and perfecting it, don’t diversify too quickly. Maintain your sense of self-worth, believe in your self and the services that you perform.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into SKŸNN By JD- ESTHETICS•MAKEUP•EYEBROWS•SPRAYTAN story. Tell us more about the business.
I consider myself an individual with lots of specialties… my brand SKŸNN (pronounced “SKIN”). Has everything to do with skin from head to toe… I am known for my deep cleansing facial, followed by an extremely relaxing décolletage/scalp massage, my eyebrow threading skills, my Arab photo-ready makeup style, and my persistence in a flawless spray tan. I love it all.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
The best part of my business is the SCHEDULICITY APP. That keeps track of all of my clients and gives them access to book online appointments and view their history… it helps me keep in contact with clients keeping them updated on what’s going on in the salon.
Instagram has also been a great resource to keep up with the latest trends and different inspirational business owners.
Being part of various makeup and esthetic groups on Facebook have been very educational and are a great way to contact others in the industry for education and advice.
