Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Chantel Sarver.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always been creative but growing up in a single parent household with limited resources, I was more into drawing at first since paint cost more than pencils.
In high school, a teacher recognized my talent and let me use the expensive “stuff” reserved for advanced art kids. It was there that I found my deep love and appreciation for abstract painting. Colors just rocked my world and saved my sanity during my rough childhood.
I was also business oriented, so it was natural for me to begin creating commissioned pieces for clients looking for bespoke art for their personal collections. I still specialize in commissioned art customized for a client’s unique style and tastes.
Today there are over 100 residential and commercial custom installations.
Please tell us about your art.
I create abstract art with acrylic and oil on linen or canvas. I often build my canvas frames from scratch.
Art is so personal, so my purest desire when I create a piece for a client (or their interior designer) is that I capture the essence of what they would want to feel as they look at the painting. I often hide personal meaning of things I’ve gathered while speaking to my customer, like a memory they shared, for example. The art work becomes more of a family heirloom at that point.
I had a collector who shared many memories about a child they lost and I painted a piece in remembrance of their child. Though it was abstract, they said it felt like their memories. That was the best feeling-to know I had accomplished the mission.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Join a local art collective! There are often in every city!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Most of the art is in private collections (even the ones once installed in public end up in a home) however I have an Instagram where you can show me love and message me for collaboration (that’s what I call working with a client because it truly is a process of collaborating with them).
