Life and Work with Amy Boatman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Boatman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Honestly, I started @eatinginhouston because I didn’t think my friends wanted to see so many food pictures on my personal account and it seemed like a fun hobby to show places around Houston. At that point, I had no idea that I would end up joining a few different food groups and getting to meet so many fun, food obsessed people like me! It may drive my husband crazy that I won’t let him eat until I’m done taking pictures, but hey, I’ve got to capture that shot!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I agree with what Danielle said in a prior interview about having to learn to take pictures of food – I had no idea what I was doing for a long time! @eatinginhouston started as a fun hobby to keep food mostly off of my personal page but then I started seeing how others were able to capture these amazing pictures and I tried to learn from them.

The Houston food scene is amazing and it seems like new food accounts pop up constantly. Going to events, you’ll start to see a lot of the same people over and over and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. However, since there are a lot of other Houston food accounts, we each have to try to make our pictures unique so that people aren’t seeing the same post throughout their feed.

Please tell us about @EatingInHouston.
My goal is to show off the growing Houston food scene (after all, I am @eatinginHOUSTON), but some vacation food will sneak in every so often! I enjoy helping people find new places to try and getting messages that someone loved the food from somewhere I posted is a really nice feeling. It blows my mind that anyone wants to see where I’m going and what I’m eating, but I will keep trying to find great meals for everyone following along on my food journey!

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
This is an interesting question. For food blogging, I feel like we’re lucky that there is the same opportunity for men and women to explore whatever city they focus on and then showcase great food and places.
