Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Clayton-Behr.
Linda is a full-time artist based in Minneapolis MN. Since childhood she has delved into the creative life. She received an Associate’s degree from St. Cloud State in Advertising, and pursued a career creating graphics for the corporate world. She longed for the freedom to create what was in her heart and imagination and finally left the corporate world in 2012 to pursue her dream.
Linda’s work has been described as conveying strength and vulnerability, strong movement and emotion in which she strives to connect with the viewer. Her paintings are inspired by music and she has created series based on music of The Beatles, Prince and David Bowie. She recently finished a series based on songs that empower women, by women.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My paintings begin with a charcoal or oil pastel sketch and are then finished with layers of either oil or acrylic paint. They can best be described as contemporary Impressionism. I am most interested in incorporating color, energy and texture into my work. Inspired by music I choose the emotion or energy I want to convey in a painting. The subject matter is often related to strength and vulnerability. I strive to convey the power we each possess, but sometimes forget, as a reminder that we can overcome any struggles on our journey in this life.
The purpose of my work is very simple. I hope that when looking at my paintings, viewers can find strength and inspiration for everyday life. My artwork is unique, sometimes quirky and thought provoking.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I think that artists have always held an important role in the world. I believe we learn about our world mostly through our very own unique perspectives. I believe that when viewing art, we actually get a rare chance to connect, to feel what someone else is feeling, to see what their perspective is. I think we can connect through all art forms, which is at its core communication. Without communication, we would lead a very lonely existence.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
