Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus and Yessica Gallegos.
Jesus and Yessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It was April 2015, when I felt in my heart it was now or never, I was ready to start my empire. By that time I was a Janitorial Supervisor for this huge corporation with multiple locations all over the USA. I felt I had learned enough to be able to risk it all for a dream.
With the support of a professional administrator next to me, my wife, I was able to make the decision of quitting my janitorial supervisor job and start on our own. We didn’t have a mentor we didn’t have another entrepreneur in the family, we really didn’t have any knowledge on how to start a business, but we started it, which is the most important fact and as a matter of fact who is born knowing everything?
No one, so if you want something so bad, you do whatever it takes to get it. By this time, the only support was our families, who have been with us since day one, from babysitting our 4-month-old when we were working from 8 am to 12 am or perhaps 1 am to being our monetary support when we needed the most. So we started off by literally knocking door to door on different neighborhoods of Houston looking for Residential clients, honestly out of 4-6 months doing this for about 4-5 hours a day, we were only able to get about 2-4 customers.
By this time we had come to the conclusion that maybe that wasn’t the right way to obtain more clients. We were able to save some money for a commercial insurance, which is really what we do best- commercial janitorial services – this is what we have 8+ years of experience at, including carpet cleaning, floor waxing, this was actually what our business was about, but honestly we started with zero budget for any legal business paperwork or any insurance payments, so that was the reason we didn’t just start looking for commercial business.
By the end of 2015, December to be exact, cleaning for another company at a commercial facility (we had to make a living while building our own company, especially with a newborn), a woman came across a parking lot running towards me asking me if I can service her commercial facility and with a smile on my face I definitely accepted right away, and we have been servicing her facility to this day July 2018.
Once we took this opportunity, we have been contacted and received many opportunities for business from small commercial facilities to 28 stories luxury living facilities and all because we believed together that God has a purpose for each of us, and that our mission with the community is to improve our client’s quality of life by delivering a fresh and clean atmosphere to enjoy and create a positive and productive environment for our clients work-space. We believe cleaning excellence is part of a successful business.
Furthermore, one of our first achievements was obtaining our office space in April of 2016, in an amazing location. (Downtown Houston).
When our business was still originally named The Lord & I Professional Cleaning Services, which was legally changed to Zion Janitorial LLC by June of 2017, within this name transition we had the amazing opportunity to obtain great professional help for our business image and up until today, this has been a blessing to our business, we believe all the effort done and still in process has been an amazing adventure into helping many companies towards their success by creating a great presentation for their clients with our services. We currently service more than 50+ commercial facilities all over Houston and it’s surrounding cities, from Katy TX to Texas City, TX and Conroe, TX among many others.
I would also like to mention that throughout these three years we have been seen Mentors at SCORE – an organization that helps new entrepreneurs just like us and anybody who is building their business from scratch, they have been of great help and very knowledgeable. I want to encourage anyone who is looking forward to starting as an entrepreneur that no matter how hard things get, keep looking towards your dream and your vision, keep yourself focused and you will start seeing results.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely NOT! You will need time, patience, self-motivation, self-discipline and money.
Starting is easy, making the decision to start is easy, growing your business is the challenge, looking for opportunities, doing whatever it takes to make it happen is the real struggle.
Our main challenges were learning the legal process of our business, investing all the money we were making at the certain time. A great challenge as well as spending most of our time working during our first child’s first year and a half of life. but we kept going and we will keep going regardless of any challenge.
