Meet Vivian Pastor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Pastor.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Originally from California and came to Texas in the 80s. I started my schooling here in Houston at The Glassell school of art. At a very young age I knew that I loved art and was very serious on pursuing that dream. I took all the classes I needed to take at Glassell and Lone Star College, drawing, painting, printmaking, and then ceramic. Well that was it I was hooked on that medium and have stayed with it for more than 30 years. Just recently I have started painting again and incorporating my ceramic as the subject matter in the painting to strive on achieving a full circle of my work. I have always believed on making what you know and love.

Please tell us about your art.
My chosen medium is clay. I work in a med. range firing. Sometimes woodfire but mostly electric kiln. There is a wide range of effects to ceramic many options to this medium. At some point you have to choose on what look you want to achieve. I use underglaze that gives me color and white with gold leaf. always looking for the simplicity in the beauty of nature. looking for expression on how each piece can alert the senses we all have.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
No. each artist makes or paint on how they or someone else feels that has never changed

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
