Meet Victor Madu of For The Leaux Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Madu.

Victor, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Throughout high school, I was interested in streetwear fashion. However, as I aged, I began to see a decrease in favorable clothing items in local malls before going off to school in San Antonio. After completing my first year of college I decided that it would be the best time to create something of my own. After a few phone calls, a small investment, and I design I drew up in a few minutes I was ready for my first release. For the Leaux clothing was launched on May 13th, 2016.

My goal was to build my brand awareness and get my community behind the movement I was trying to begin, these were the more difficult times. Day-after-day I was doing local deliveries and meeting new people and customers I felt like I’d have a life-long relationship with. I knew if I wanted this to be something substantial, I had to give it my undivided attention. Two years later, For the Leaux Clothing is one of the most widespread streetwear brands out of Texas, having shipped to all 50 States in the United States and several other countries.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say the road has been smooth at all, there were a lot of speed bumps. Some nights I wouldn’t sleep because I would either be struggling to come up with a new design or trying to guess what color scheme people would like to wear. As a result of fashion being so opinionated, I had to think like a consumer.

When the orders were coming in early on, I was the only one who was packaging and shipping them. The shipping process was probably the worst part about owning a clothing line, but in order to get through those ruthless nights and piles of clothes I had to constantly remind myself that it was a “good” problem to have, and it only means progress.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the For the Leaux Clothing story. Tell us more about the business.
Personally, I always saw the potential of social media and the convenience of reaching a large audience with minimal effort. Throughout the years, I’ve always been skilled at marketing my ideas in order to increase traffic to my website.

People know me for being really interactive with my customers. One thing that sets my brand apart from others is that I held a 100% off event where I basically gave everything away on my website at the time. It was a chaotic event where thousands of people worldwide were on the website at one time and each person was limited to one item.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’d rather talk about good luck before bad luck because I’ve been managing the company for a little over two years and I still cannot believe the amount of support I have received so far. It’s really overwhelming to get messages from people who are inspired by what I do. I believe good luck has played its role heavily in this case because a lot of entrepreneurs work hard but luck fused with that determination to be successful is a different outcome.
