Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Jang.
Lily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a TV News Anchor for 21 years in Amarillo, TX, Birmingham, AL, Seattle, WA, and Houston, TX. In 2017, I traveled back to my hometown of Saigon, Vietnam with Houston Public Media (PBS) to produce, write, and host a documentary that followed the 10-part series by Ken Burns called The Vietnam War. My documentary featured amazing Houstonians living their American Dream abroad and I also chronicled my own story: I found the neighborhood where I was born and gave viewers insight into who I am and where my life journey began. That same year, my life took another pivot and I decided to pursue my second calling in Real Estate. I married my broadcast past and my Real Estate career and started my own TV segment on NBC called Lily’s List each Saturday and Sunday, showing off the area’s most amazing open houses. It’s been an incredible first year, selling $8M in real estate, and I’m looking forward to an even more successful year two.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The best lessons in life came from the biggest disappointments. I left TV news because new management came in, made changes, and decided to part ways when my contract was up. I was devastated, but that setback became my biggest comeback. It was a terrifying decision, but I decided to put TV news in my rear view mirror, change careers, and pursue real estate full time. The moment one door closes, an entire world of possibilities opens up if you believe in yourself. I have learned how to develop a reputation based on trust and integrity amid widespread competition. Work hard, give gratitude on the daily, and constantly learn. That’s been my recipe for success.
We’d love to hear more about Lily Jang Real Estate with Heritage Texas Properties.
I sell real estate all over Houston. My clients will tell you that my ethics, level of service, and knowledge are why they would refer me and use me again. Whether I’m selling a $5,000,000 home or helping a client buy a $200,000 one, I give the same level of attention and care to both. Luxury is an experience, not a price tag. I pride myself most on being someone they can trust, who goes the extra mile, and will always have their back. All you have is your reputation at the end of the day. I always do the right thing.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I constantly read anything and everything real estate related. Houston Business Journal, HAR, and Inman are all constant open tabs on my laptop. Currently reading “Outrageous Authenticity” by Leigh Brown.
