Thanks for sharing your story with us Mayra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for hair and makeup started when I was 13 years old when I work at my aunt’s beauty salon cleaning. I would love to see these beautifully styled updos, the confidence a client would get with a great haircut, and the smile on their face when she would hand them the mirror. It was then that I knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry. I received my cosmetology license and began working with Toni&Guy shortly after where I cut and styled hair for 4 years. It was then that my interest in makeup grew and I sought out training in beauty makeup, and I fell in love again! I pursued my love for makeup and began working with MAC Cosmetics where I stayed for 9 years. MAC gave me the training, skills, knowledge, and experience to work with all skin types, genders, and to work under pressure for any occasion. In 2010, I knew I could do more and it was then when I took the leap of faith and started my own company Simple Beauty Artistry. I offered on location traditional and airbrush makeup services and started working every weekend. It was awesome! Now, in 2018, I have grown far more than I can ever imagine. We now offer traditional makeup, airbrush makeup, hair styling, hair extensions, lash extensions, spray tanning, barbering services, on location or in a studio with two convenient locations. I have started my own makeup brush line and eyelash line. We have an amazing team of 12 artists and continue growing every day. I am extremely thankful for their hard work, for my clients repeat business and referrals. I wouldn’t be here without them. I look forward to what the future brings.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road and I had many struggles along the way. One of the most difficult time was actually being ready to take the risk and go on my own. Having a family, my husband and two young children, depending on me was a lot of pressure. Business didn’t start off good therefore there was a time when I would work and time when I didn’t. Having to budget our finances and still invest to grow the business was a struggle. Thankfully, it went well and the company took off. With growth came more responsibility and a few more bumps in the road. I had a few bad investments and a couple of team members come and go. Although it was tough we got through it and now I am blessed to have a strong team that I can depend on. I am certain that I will have more struggles as I continue to grow but I look forward to the adventure it will bring.

Simple Beauty Artistry offers traditional makeup, airbrush makeup, hair styling, hair extensions, lash extensions, barbering services, spray tanning, and makeup and lessons. We specialize in beauty makeup and are known for our wedding day bridal services. We do have a large team and are able to accommodate a party of any size. I am most proud of my amazing team. I know that I can always depend on them, I know their work is phenomenal, and I know they are ready to grow with me. Our customer service, the experience we provide, and the skills we bring to our clients is what sets us apart from others.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is playing dress up with my older cousins. I am the youngest of all the girls so they all loved to “dress” me up. I remember once when they thought it would be great to cut and curl my hair. I looked like I stuck my finger in a socket!!! I was in so much trouble for letting them do that to me but it was fun while we were doing it.
