Meet Connie May of Scrap Yard Sports in Woodlands, North Side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie May.

Connie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We began construction in 2012 and realized the demand for baseball & softball fields. We were following a
passion for the sport and love to allow kids to have a safe upscale place to play. I must admit, we got a little crazy, however, we have built one of the premier complexes in the United States. With 10 all turf fields on the ground and 6 more on the drawing board, we look to have everything from your weekend tournaments to major division I events, as well as summer World Series style events.

Scrap Yard Sports is where I live, work & play!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Wow, not at all. We had large issues to begin. The neighbors really had no idea what to expect, so they went to great lengths to attempt to keep us from opening. However, there was a higher power driving this and as we needed things, they were provided. Today, I feel as though the relationship with the neighbors is significantly better, with only a few hiccups every now and again. I think now they are grateful for the services we provide.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Scrap Yard Sports – what should we know?
We are a 10 !eld, 82-acre baseball-softball facility that allows pretty much-guaranteed play and focuses on the entire child. Our foundation Academic Excellence for Growth in Sports, ensures our athletes have their personal toolboxes full before heading to college. Everything from practice time tutors to ACT/SAT prep, we give our athletes the best possible opportunity to succeed in their adult lives.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Hard work and a can-do attitude. No matter the obstacle, we are driven by a greater good and will prevail.
