Meet Annette Palmer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annette Palmer.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
From a very creative childhood, the opportunity to spend a lot of my time in the art department at high school, I then went on to attend art school in my native Scotland. After working as a fashion designer and travelling for many years, I returned to Texas where I now call home.

Please tell us about your art.
My work is inspired by the distance between myself and loved ones, this is a result of numerous moves and relocations over the years. I feel that this is something most of us can relate to in today’s transient society.

When I paint I connect with my innermost feelings of being at the other side of a vast expanse,
creating emotional land and seascape paintings where I explore distance, connectivity and forgotten means of communication, presented in a fusion of paint and experimental textures with elements of collage work, sometimes sewn into the paintings. I invite the viewer to dive in and stay a while.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think the internet is a wonderful tool for artists, but it comes with expectations that artists will have a website, numerous social media outlets, blog, etc. that it can be very time consuming to keep up with, it can detract from painting time and the immersion that you get in your work without interruption.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am represented by Glade Gallery, The Woodlands, where I currently have a solo show, “Home from Home”, the show runs until September 13th.
