Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Cram.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been dancing since I was a little girl, I think I started dance classes before I was 3.
I dance locally at Angela Myers Academy of Dance, then trained at The Houston Ballet Academy and on to the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. After I was injured dancing, I pursued theater throughout the rest of my high school career at Conroe High. I took a long break from dance, I went to college and met and married the love of my life Gregory, but eventually, I landed in a small liturgical dance company Bere Sheet Ballet. I performed in their contemporary piece, Genesis Ballet.
During the time I was dancing with them, I also started the dance program for the Conroe Family YMCA. I taught there for 5 years until my oldest daughter, Ella was starting school and I had twin boys, Dennis and William. We homeschooled for 6 years and then all of the big kids went to public school. Our family was blessed with two more children during this time Gracen and HopeAna. After my oldest graduated from Willis High School, I brought my big boys back home and we have been homechooling all the children ever since.
I saw an ad on a Homeschool FB group for a new dance studio starting up in Conroe, A Time to Dance. I messaged the owner and she and I hit it off and I help to build that studio up until they closed due to the owner moving. When A Time to Dance closed, I felt like there was a huge opportunity, especially within the homeschool community, for a specifically Christian Dance studio. Also, my youngest, HopeAna, needed a dance studio to continue her dance development and I looked around and could not find a studio nearby that was what I wanted her dance experience to be like, so I founded Grace Pointe Dance. We are a non-profit dance program that is an outreach ministry of The Woodlands Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Grace Pointe Dance has our main dance space at First Christian Church Conroe in the renovated loft studio. We began our first classes last September just weeks after Hurricane Harvey hit this area. Dance class became a time for fun and laughter for all of us during that time of heart ache and hard work.
We are looking forward to starting our second Fall season of Dance this year on September 4th and have hired an additional teacher, Carla Prescott. We have had unexpected growth and have more than doubled our enrollment from last fall. I feel so blessed to head up such an amazing group of dancers.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like I said, we opened up just after Hurricane Harvey, I was so worried that it would seem so trivial to be offering dance classes when so many we so, but dance brings joy.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance classes and performance works for children and teens.
I am the proudest of the friendly culture of our studio. We are a community that loves God and wants to share His love through the joy of Dance. The waiting room is alive with the chatter of moms getting to know one another. Sweet friendships are forged in the studio and then developed at outside get togethers.
I am proud that my dancers know that they are loved and valued by me but more importantly by God. I tell them all the time I love that I get to teach them dance but the most valuable thing I do for them is at the end of class when I pray for them.
What sets us apart is our choice to honor God and ourselves by choosing modesty and age appropriate costuming and movements. We share the Love of God through the Joy of Dance.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been a strong personality. My mom said that a lady at our church once told her “If Stacey ever goes astray it won’t be because someone led her there, it would be all her doing!”
I have always loved dance, the arts, history, and science. I was the kid that watched the science and history shows on PBS. I was blessed to have parents that loved to read so I easily learned that reading was the way to learn and explore no matter when or where you were.
